Self-Care Spring Season: Incorporating Mindfulness Into Daily Practices

Spring has sprung, and if you ask me, this is the most powerful season of the year. The warmer temperatures, longer daytime hours, and an added boost of vitamin D – all of these things have the power to motivate me to become a better version of myself. And what better way to do some self-care than by incorporating mindfulness into daily practices? These simple, yet effective daily habits can help us cultivate a deeper connection, not only with ourselves, but also with the world around us. So, if you’re looking for a way to foster a sense of peace, balance, and well-being during this spring season, then this is the article for you.

Mindful Morning Routine

I have to start with the good old morning routine. Let’s be honest, most of us start our days by looking at our phones. I know that I do – not because I’m expecting any important notifications, but simply because that has been something I’ve done for probably the last decade. And falling out of this habit is hard. But you know what helped me tremendously? Not having my phone by my bedside. Ideally, leave your phone in a completely different room while you’re sleeping. Invest in an actual alarm clock. And try not to look at any screens for at least the first 30 minutes after you wake up.

Now, I won’t bore you with the 30-minute meditation session or one hour-long journaling. I know that most of us don’t have time to do that in the morning. However, I still believe that setting aside a few moments for quiet reflection or gratitude is the best way to start off your day. This doesn’t have to be a super long routine. Instead, you can sit on your bed for a couple of minutes after waking up, and just visualize the day that you would like to have. Express gratitude for the new day ahead, take a few deep breaths, and center yourself back into the present moment.

Connect with Nature

There’s nothing I look forward to more during the cold winter months than reconnecting with nature once spring arrives. The warmer weather and longer daylight hours finally allow us to spend more time outdoors, and just embrace the trees and flowers surrounding us. And you don’t have to go on a challenging hike to cultivate your connection with nature. A leisurely walk in the park or a book-reading session in your backyard or balcony can do the trick as well. I know that this tip isn’t anything revolutionary, however, we often underestimate the power that nature has to level us and make us feel calm. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed or out of touch with yourself, it’s time to go outside and appreciate the beauty of the natural world around you. This will allow you to be fully present in the moment.

Unplug and Recharge

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the constant stream of information and digital distractions. That’s why it’s so important to unplug technology from time to time and allow ourselves to recharge from the digital world. Constantly scrolling on our phones and checking our notifications only brings us anxiety and stress. So, it’s time to face the truth and realize that even though the internet is an amazing place, it shouldn’t be the place that we live in 24/7. Put your phone on airplane mood, enjoy a quiet cup of tea, and simply sit a few moments in silence observing your thoughts and emotions.
