Amber Nichole Miller is a model and entrepreneur with a strong passion for helping others. This passion led Amber to co-find the Save Our Children Initiative alongside her friend Alana. The Save Our Children Initiative is helping to raise awareness about human trafficking and human sex trafficking (especially trafficking targeting children) by raising awareness on how sex traffickers lure people in. We sat down and spoke with Amber about her cause.
What made you start the Save Our Children Initiative?
My friend and co-founder, Alana, called me to ask what initiative I would like to start because she loves my passion and drive. I said, “I have something that has been boiling inside my soul: Child Trafficking, Child Sex Trafficking, and any abuse of children!” I had recently been researching and seeking ways to help with this very real epidemic and learned how frighteningly easy it is for predators online and at school. It was terrifying raising twin 11-year-old boys and seeing how very real this danger is!
Has social media made it easier for human traffickers to lure their victims? And have the number of cases grown since the rise of social media?
Since the conception of social media, it has been quite literally a breeding ground for depraved, disgusting predators! As a female model, I deal with this quite frequently; however, speaking to parents of young girls and boys who allow their children on social media, the amount of “grooming” and predatory behavior is shocking. Social media has literally made abusing children as easy as checking a direct message!
What do you see as the biggest problem that causes young people to become victims of human trafficking?
The biggest problems causing young people to become victims are social acceptance and family trouble (limited means, addiction, abuse). Grooming and common lures can give these children a sense of belonging.
How can you spot a human trafficker?
Sadly, spotting a human trafficker is virtually impossible. These terrible human beings could be trusted family members, teachers, police officers, priests, or even other children. We must educate parents and children to all of these grooming tactics, and lures.
What are the biggest challenges for you when it comes to saving these victims?
I am not tactical and cannot participate in the actual saving of these children. But I am a volunteer with Our Rescue, and their team has done a tremendous job! I have hopes to facilitate these children, survivors, and humans by finding proper aftercare, therapy, and a safe home.
What drives you to help others?
I am an empath who has always been driven to help others and take others under my wing. I think as a loving, caring human, you should have a drive to help others and make a difference. I find that when speaking about this terrible epidemic, I meet so many like-minded, loving humans who are also moved to make a real difference.
Please tell us about the most rewarding experience you’ve had when it comes to the Save Our Children Initiative.
I have met several survivors in the course of only a month of starting this important initiative. I couldn’t just choose one inspiring story. It is powerful to speak to survivors and to give them a voice and a safe place to share pain, challenge, and now, hope.
What else do you dedicate your time to?
Modeling has always been my passion, and I’m so happy to use this experience and presence on social media to spread this information, create awareness, and essentially wake many people up so that they, too, can use their influence to help and share!!
Thank you to my friend Shawn Ferjanic for the amazing photos! And thank you to the VIVA GLAM Team for allowing me to share my passion and to bring awareness to this terrible growing epidemic!
