The Perfect Blowout: Tips and Tricks for Getting Those Salon-Quality Waves at Home

Nothing can make you feel more confident than a good blowout, am I right? However, getting one at the salon each time you wash your hair isn’t attainable, for different reasons. First of all — it would cost you a fortune. Secondly, it would also take up so much of your free time. Luckily, getting the perfect blowout at home is much easier than you may think — but you have to get your technique down. If you’re still looking for ways to get those salon-quality waves at home, here are some of our favorite tips.

Investing in the tools

One of the most important things when it comes to creating the perfect blowout at home is investing in the right hair tools. But that doesn’t mean that you have to spend a fortune to get the look. Sure, the Dyson is amazing, but something similar can be done with a regular blow dryer and a ceramic round brush. Ideally, you should also have a cool setting on your blow dryer to set your curls and make them last longer. Additionally, prepare your hair with a heat protectant spray to minimize damage and a styling mousse or volumizing spray to add extra body and hold to your waves.

Preparation is key

Preparation is key, and that’s especially true when we are talking about hair. To achieve a flawless blowout, divide your hair into sections. Start at the nape of your neck and work your way up. Use hair clips or ties to secure the sections you’re not working on to prevent tangling. Before blow-drying, towel-dry your hair to remove excess moisture, and comb through it to eliminate any tangles. For added volume, flip your head upside down and rough-dry your hair until it’s about 70% dry.

Get the technique down

Probably the most important thing when it comes to how your blowout looks is the technique that you are going to use. Starting at the roots and moving down to the ends, take a portion of hair and wrap it around your round brush. To get a smooth, frizz-free finish, use the concentrator nozzle attachment on your blow dryer to guide the airflow downward along the hair shaft. To produce a gentle, natural-looking wave, roll the brush away from your face as you get to the ends. Repeat this process with each piece of hair until it is completely dry.

Set and forget

Once your hair is dry and styled, it’s time to set and forget your waves. For added hold, use a light-hold hairspray or a texturizing spray. After spraying, scrunch your hair lightly with your fingers to enhance the texture and create a more lived-in look. If desired, use a curling iron or wand to touch up any sections that need a little extra definition. And last but not least, finish with a final spritz of hairspray to ensure your waves last throughout the day.
