Reasons You’re Always Tired and Ways to Fix It

When we feel tired, most of us will automatically think that the sensation is due to lack of sleep. However, there are various explanations for your exhaustion and lack of energy. The good news is that most of the probable causes of your tiredness are due to your unhealthy practices, which you can fix by changing some of your lifestyle habits. To give you a better idea, here are the common reasons you’re always tired.

1. Anemia

When you feel tired all the time, a probable explanation is that you’re anemic. Basically, this medical condition occurs when you have low levels of healthy red blood cells (RBCs). As you know, this type of cell is responsible for transporting oxygen and other nutrients throughout your body. Thus, some of the common symptoms of anemia are weakness, dizziness, exhaustion, and shortness of breath.

The Fix: Doctors will recommend some dietary changes to cope with anemia. Typically, you need to increase your iron intake, preferably with vitamin C to encourage more absorption. Some of the best plant sources of iron are spirulina, tofu, and dark chocolate.

Aside from that, you also need to consume more vitamin B, especially cobalamin and folate. You can get these vital nutrients in nutritional yeast, fortified products, and green leafy vegetables.

2. Sitting All Day

Today, one of the most common reasons you’re always tired is, ironically, sitting all day. Keep in mind that our bodies are designed to move. Unfortunately, most of us have desk jobs that deter us from moving constantly. As a result, a lot of people experience fatigue, muscle tensions, back pain, mood swings, and weight gain.

The Fix: The best way to resolve this problem is to include exercises in your weekly schedule. If you don’t have a lot of time, there are various activities you can do at work. For example, you can take the stairs instead of an elevator. You can also give yourself some “walk breaks” throughout the day. Stretching can also help relieve your muscle stiffness and tensions.

3. Poor Eating Habits

Basically, one of the most common signs of a bad diet is constantly feeling tired. Always remember that food is your primary source of energy. However, not all edible products can bring forth vitality.

Take consuming a lot of refined carbohydrates for example. Initially, these foods can provide a temporary boost in your energy levels. After an hour or two, you’ll start feeling tired and craving for more sweets.

The Fix: To correct a bad diet, you should eat a balanced meal with proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and other essential nutrients. Moreover, you should always follow your recommended daily calorie intake. Generally, adult women should not consume less than 2,000 calories per day. For adult men, their daily limit is about 2,400 calories.

4. Poor Sleep Quality

Aside from the above-mentioned reasons you’re always tired, the most common explanation is lack of good quality sleep. As you know, a lot of people are unable to consistently complete the recommended period of sleep due to various causes such as stress, poor diet, heavy workload, and unhealthy sleeping habits. As a result, you’re not only exhausted. Sleep deprivation can also result in irritability, mood swings, weight gain, and a weak immune system.

The Fix: As much as possible, try to get about seven to nine hours of sleep. If you’re having a difficulty falling asleep, there are various natural sleep aids you can do such as meditating, drinking chamomile tea, and inhaling lavender oil.

In addition, the blue light emitted by your cell phone and other electronics can also disrupt melatonin production. For this reason, it is best to turn off these devices two hours before bedtime.

5. Dehydration

Finally, the last in this list of reasons you’re always tired is dehydration. If you’re suffering from dehydration, your blood is more viscous or thick. Thus, your heart is sending oxygen and other essential nutrients throughout your body at a slower rate. As a result, you may experience fatigue, moodiness, muscle weakness, and inability to focus.

The Fix: To avoid dehydration, always drink plenty of water. Eating fruits and vegetables can also provide your body with electrolytes namely sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Remember, these minerals can also help energize your body and keep your cells functioning efficiently. Coconut water is a good option. This tropical beverage can provide electrolytes and hydrate your body.
