How to Know if Your Long Distance Relationship is Worth It

In many ways, a long distance relationship is similar to a local one. Two people form a bond with the hope that there could be a strong connection and they may have found “the one.” The major difference is that there is a lot more pressure on both parties to make the relationship work right away. This is because there is more commitment needed to build and sustain a relationship when you’re thousands of miles apart. Here are a few signs that your long distance relationship is worth all the extra time and effort you’re putting in.

You Can Reach Them Anytime

Since you’re probably not seeing your partner often, it is important that they’re available when you need them. If you’re freaking out over a big presentation or a doctor’s appointment, you should be able to pick up the phone and call them. They need to be there for you to calm you down and maybe even make you laugh. You should be able to depend on them to be there for you no matter what. Of course, if you’re in different time zones, immediate responses may not be possible; but knowing that they will respond as soon as they can is also good enough.

You Trust Them Completely

The most important aspect of a maintaining a successful long distance relationship is trust. Since the two of you may be in different cities or even separate continents, there is a great degree of patience and conviction involved. Since you can’t see your partner face to face, or know where they are at all times, it is essential to be able to take them at their word.

The Important People in Their Life Know About You

If the people close to your partner know all about you, this is a good sign. It probably means that they’re happy to be in a relationship with you and talk about you all the time. The two of you are constantly in touch with each other through phone calls, video calls, and text messages. Your partner may even have introduced you to his loved ones via Skype. These are good indications that your long distance relationship is on the right track.

So, the next time you question if your long distance relationship is worth the time and effort you’re putting in, ask yourself how many of the signs mentioned above hold true for you. Are the two of you equally invested in the relationship emotionally and financially? If you’re both in agreement that you are, and are willing to do what it takes to make it work, then your long distance relationship is definitely worth it.
