How to Fade Your Bad At-Home Dye Job

Dyeing your hair can greatly improve your appearance. However, coloring your tresses at home may not yield the results you want. Sometimes, you may end up dyeing your hair too dark. Unfortunately, the color of the permanent dye will take about four to six weeks to fade naturally. The good news is that there are easy ways to fade a bad at-home dye job quickly.

1. Use a Clarifying Shampoo

If your hair color is too bright, you can wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo. It contains surfactants that can get rid of the dye on your hair. For best results, you need to wash your hair after dyeing your hair. Plus, you also need to use the clarifying shampoo often and apply a conditioner afterward. After a couple of days, you’ll notice that the color will start to fade.

2. Wash Your Hair with Hot Water

A clarifying shampoo can help fade a bad at-home dye job. However, it may take some time. To hasten the fading process, you should also rinse your hair with hot water. Remember, hot water can open your hair cuticle, allowing the dye to flow along with the water. However, you have to make sure that the water is not too hot because too much heat can also damage your tresses and scalp.

3. Use Baking Soda

Another easy way to fade a permanent dye without damaging your hair is to use baking soda. This product is a scrubbing agent, and it can lighten hair color gradually.

To do this method, you need to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo and rinse. Afterward, make a paste by combining a half cup of baking soda with a few teaspoons of water. From there, apply the paste on your dyed hair, and let it sit for 10 minutes. Finally, wash your hair with hot water. For best results, you can do this process three to four times a week.

4. Spray Some Lemon Juice

An excellent method you can use to fade a bad at-home dye job is to use lemon juice. As a natural bleaching agent, lemon juice can help lighten dark hair color. However, this natural product is acidic, so it may cause dryness to your hair and scalp, especially when used for a long period.

To lighten your hair with lemon juice, you need to mix two to three lemons with some water. Afterward, spray the mixture on your color-treated hair, and let it sit for 30 to 60 mins. Finally, wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo, then apply a conditioner.
