Skincare Habits to Adapt Before 2024

As we get ready for the New Year, it’s a good time to rethink our skincare routines and adopt some essential habits for healthier and more radiant skin. While most of us already have a regular skincare routine that we follow, implementing new habits is never a bad idea. Especially if they can help you tackle some of your biggest skin concerns. To give you some inspiration, and help you get the clear and glowing skin that you are dreaming of, here are some easy skincare habits to start before 2024 arrives.

Regularly Reapplying Sunscreen

You probably already know how important sunscreen is. However, are you really reapplying it on a regular basis? Be honest. Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. While applying sunscreen initially is important, reapplying it every two hours, especially when you’re outside for long periods is necessary. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to shield your skin from aging and sun damage, keeping your skin healthy and radiant. Also, if you’re prone to face sweat, make sure that your sunscreen is waterproof.

Changing Pillowcases for Clean Skin

Did you know that the condition of your pillowcases can affect your skin’s health? Just think about all the things that transfer onto your pillowcase throughout the week. From skincare, haircare, makeup, and perfume, to sebum and sweat. Changing them regularly helps prevent the buildup of bacteria, dirt, and oil, ensuring a clean and hygienic sleeping space. Opt for high-quality, hypoallergenic pillowcases and switch them at least once a week to reduce the risk of skin issues. You can also invest in materials that minimize the growth of bacteria, such as satin. This will not only make your pillowcase more hygienic but also help you prevent wrinkles and hair damage caused by rough cotton pillowcases.

Washing Your Face After Shampooing

After shampooing your hair, make it a habit to wash your face thoroughly afterward. This prevents any leftover shampoo, conditioner, or styling products from causing skin irritation or breakouts. By doing this simple step, you can keep your skin clean and free from potential irritants found in hair products. This doesn’t only apply to your face and neck area, though! If you’re suffering from breakouts on your back and shoulder area, your hair care products may be to blame! So make sure you always wash those parts of your body one more time after you’ve rinsed out your shampoo and/or conditioner.

Taking Breaks from Active Skincare

While using active skincare products can help your skin significantly, giving your skin a break is equally important. Try having “skin fasting” days where you skip using strong ingredients like retinoids and acids. This helps your skin balance and prevents overexfoliation and sensitivity. Give your skin a break, and give it a chance to revitalize naturally. Remember, sometimes less is really more. Especially if we’re talking about skincare products. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t do any routine at all! Just make sure all the products you are using are simple, hydrating, and as gentle as possible.
