Essential Oils for Living Well

Essential oils contain aroma compounds from plants, and throughout history they have been used to treat a number of ailments. Here are a few, basic essential oils and a little bit of information about what makes them popular:

Peppermint Oil

The Peppermint plant is a popular plant that’s actually a cross between water mint and spear mint, and the oil derived from the plant has been well known and widely used across the world for centuries. Most are familiar with the fresh minty scent and flavor that work well to freshen breath, but many don’t know that it also works to relieve sore muscles and soothe digestive issues. Using peppermint oil regularly may reduce stomach aches, relieve headaches, improve mental focus, and boost energy.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is known as the most versatile essential oil available today, and it’s most commonly known for its calming effects on the body – this makes it a wonderful aid for relaxing and sleeping. Therapeutic lavender can also be used on the skin, specifically to clean cuts and bruises. It will eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect, enhance blood circulation, and treat respiratory issues as an added bonus.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree, and is used for its medicinal properties in several different ways. Tea tree oil is known to help with topical infections on the skin, like acne, as well as ear aches, fungal infections, lice, and ringworm. Many have also utilized tea tree oil to help kill bacteria that causes bad breath.

Lemon Oil

Lemons pack a punch in health benefits, so it’s no surprise that Lemon Oil is super beneficial for health. Lemon oil has a variety of healing properties and acts as a stimulating, calming, anti-infecting, detoxifying, antiseptic, antifungal and disinfectant resource for people. It’s well known to treat stress disorders, and to help with nausea, coughs and abdominal pain. Lemon oil has a very pleasant aroma and is frequently used as an inexpensive additive for beverages all over the world.

Clove Oil

Clove oil is derived from the leaves of the clove tree, an evergreen with numerous medicinal properties. Its most common use is as an anti-bacterial and anti-septic agent in dental care; several all-natural toothpastes and mouth washes contain clove oil.  It’s incredibly useful as an immune-boosting antioxidant, and also treats stress, headaches, and respiratory problems. Finally, clove oil has been known to act as an aphrodisiac, as it helps with blood circulation.
