The Holidays Are Here: The Best Skincare Routine For When You’re Drunk

‘Tis the season of drunken nights and makeup wipes, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. We know that the holiday season often brings joy, laughter, and sometimes, nights of revelry. But after the fun, we come home feeling all drained and sleepy. The last thing that you probably want to do is a 10-step skincare routine. However, if all you’re willing to do is swipe your makeup off with some makeup wipes, don’t be surprised that you will wake up with some new spots on your face. So, what is the perfect skincare routine for when you’re drunk? Let’s find out together.

Taking the Day Off

So, if makeup wipes are off the table, what is the best way to remove your makeup? Literally anything else. A cleansing oil followed by a water-based cleanser would be ideal. But if that is too much, micellar water will work too. You’re probably wondering, why is micellar water better than a makeup wipe? For so many reasons. Makeup wipes are not only horrible for the environment, but also often have a high alcohol percentage. While they will remove your makeup, they will also throw off your skin’s pH level. And we know how bad that is for your skin barrier.

Moisturizer

If you’re not willing to clean your face with a cleanser, then you probably also don’t feel like slapping four different essences and serums onto your face. Fair enough, however, your skin still needs some hydration. So use a hydrating mist, let it sink in for a minute, and follow it up with a moisturizer. If you want to be extra effective, you can opt for something with active ingredients. That will be easy and convenient to do before bed, and you’re skin will still get some nourishment throughout the night.

If You’re Not a Sloppy Drunk

Now, what if you’re dedicated to your routine even while you’re tipsy? Congratulations, you’re a better person than I am. However, I can still share with you some tips on what you can do to help your skin recover from a wild holiday party. After all that heavy drinking, your skin will need a detox too. And what better way than with an antioxidant serum? You already know that the gold standard is Vitamin C. Apply a few drops to your face, and follow it up with a moisturizer. If your skin doesn’t tolerate vitamin C, Niacinamide, Ginseng, and Alpha Arbutin could be great options too.

The Morning After

Skincare or not, you will be puffy in the morning. That, combined with your hangover will make you question if it was worth is. Until the next party is scheduled, of course. So, what can you do to help both your skin and your overall well-being? Ice rollers, cold sheet masks, or anything that’s both cooling and refreshing could work wonders. Make sure to hydrate, both orally and topically, and your skin will be ready and glowing for the next holiday party!
