Strawberry Legs: How To Get Rid of the Annoying Dark Spots on Your Legs

Exfoliate to get rid of dead skin cells

Shave properly and with good razors 

Shaving can also cause strawberry legs if not done correctly. Make sure to use a sharp razor and shave in the direction of hair growth to avoid ingrown hairs. Using shaving cream or gel can also help to prevent irritation and bumps. Make sure you switch up your razors regularly, and that you’re actually the only person who uses them. You can also opt for other hair removal methods, such as waxing or hair-removal creams.

Moisturizing is key

Keeping your skin moisturized is crucial in preventing and treating strawberry legs. Dry skin can cause dead skin cells to accumulate and clog pores. A moisturizer with ingredients such as glycerin, shea butter, or hyaluronic acid can help to hydrate and nourish your skin. Apply the moisturizer after exfoliating or shaving, when your skin is still damp, to lock in moisture. If your skin is extra dry, you can even apply body oil on top of that.

You can even use retinol

Vitamin A derivatives called retinoids, including retinol can help to lighten dark spots and smooth out the texture of the skin. They function by accelerating cell turnover while boosting the production of collagen.  Retinoids, however, can be irritating to the skin, so it’s crucial, to begin with low amounts and slowly increase it over time. Retinoids might make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so use them exclusively at night and apply sunscreen throughout the day.

If you’ve tried the above tips and still have persistent strawberry legs, it may be time to see a dermatologist. They can recommend prescription-strength creams or treatments that can help to improve the appearance of your skin. They can also help to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing your strawberry legs. Sometimes the issue is a bit deeper than simply a lack of exfoliation and body lotion.
