What advice do you have for readers who are looking to make it as a dancer, no matter their age?

If you’re really passionate about it, just keep doing it. Yes, I had a very successful group but I wasn’t always the one in the group that was winning every weekend. My solo wasn’t always first. But it didn’t matter because I knew that’s what I was supposed to be doing.

Do you find that a lot of dancers give up too early because they’re in the wrong environment?

I do. A lot of dancers get beaten down and they see someone that’s better than them. It breaks them down. We were always taught that if we see someone better than us, to stand right next to them – that’s your competition. You want to strive to be better than them.
