Did You Know There is a Science to Drying Your Hair?

How do you properly shampoo and dry your hair?

Did you know that drying your hair properly after you shampoo it can make all the difference in the world when it comes to the way your hair looks? Well, we had no idea, but thanks to a Cambridge doctor, we now know the secrets to unlocking your hair’s ultimate potential for looking and feeling its best.

Dr. Tim Moore studies the effects of shampooing and drying human hair.  And what he has discovered just might surprise you!  For example, for those of you who believe that blow drying your hair is more damaging that letting it dry naturally, you might be shocked to find out that this is not the case. In fact, it is quite the opposite!  Drying your hair naturally is actually more damaging than blow drying it!  So, if you go to bed with damp hair you might end up with more split ends.

Should you choose cheap shampoos and conditioners or expensive ones? Dr. Moore suggests purchasing mid-tier products because the cheap ones didn’t perform well and the expensive ones didn’t make that much of a difference for the price.

If you towel dry your hair as soon as you get out of the shower, gently squeeze it to remove excess water. Never rub as this can cause your hair to look frizzy once it is dry.

And if you want to achieve that shiny look that most of us want, it is important to use a narrow nozzle on your hair dryer.  Aim your hairdryer downwards to blow out knots and tangles and you will achieve that straight, shiny look.

And finally, if you are styling your hair, never apply a straightener or curler to wet hair! This will damage your hair as the water that is still within the cortex of your hair will burst out as heat is applied.

Now that you know these scientifically proven secrets, you’ll be on your way to gorgeous, shiny hair!
