As much as I enjoy the whole Christmas/New Year’s atmosphere, it just gets so stressful. And that’s not all. Indulging in those festive delights also takes a toll on our bodies. I’m not only talking about the food and drinks, but also staying up late, waking up late, and living life without an actual schedule. Sure, it can be fun and refreshing for a while. However, it’s time to finally get back on track and get our lives together. So if you’re interested in a post-holiday detox, here are all of the steps that you should be taking.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

We have to start with a classic. However, chances are that you’ve probably neglected your water intake during the holiday season. And God knows that you definitely needed some good old H2O. Hydration flushes out toxins, aids digestion, and rejuvenates the body. It doesn’t have to be plain water either. Infuse water with citrus fruits or herbs for added flavor and detox benefits. You can also look into water with added electrolytes to boost your energy levels too.

Nourish with Whole Foods

It’s time to finally transition from holiday feasts to a diet rich in whole, unprocessed foods. Focus on plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Incorporate detoxifying foods like leafy greens, berries, and fiber-rich options to support your body’s natural cleansing process. And cut off foods such as processed sugars, sodium rich meals, and sodas out for a couple of weeks. You will notice how “lighter” your body feels and moves!

Mindful Movement and Sweat

Did you add any fitness goals to your New Year’s resolutions? If not, it’s time to do so. Don’t worry, we won’t peer pressure you into signing up for a GYM membership (even though it wouldn’t hurt if you do). Simply engage in gentle exercises or activities that encourage sweating. Whether it’s yoga, brisk walks, or dancing, movement boosts circulation and aids the body in releasing toxins through sweat. But remember, the most important thing is to find an activity that brings you joy. When done out of true enjoyment, exercise can feel like a hobby, and not like a chore.

Prioritize Sleep and Rest

Those late December nights spent on holiday parties take a toll on our bodies. Recharge by prioritizing good-quality sleep. Aim for consistent rest to support your body’s natural detoxification processes. Maybe you’ll need some melatonin supplements, sleeping masks, or ear plugs. Whatever the answer may be, just make sure you’re getting the rest you need. And once you establish a relaxing bedtime routine and fix your sleeping schedule, you will notice how much more energized you feel throughout the day.

Digital Detox

Detox isn’t just about the body; it’s also about the mind. So make sure you take some time to disconnect from digital devices and reconnect with yourself. Start reading a new book, go on a mindfulness walk, listen to your favorite podcast, or just snuggle with your pets. There’s so much to do outside of scrolling through your phone and bombarding your mind with news that aren’t in any way necessary.
