Kourtney Kardashian is speaking on Capitol Hill and it is important.
There is a belief about the Kardashians that you might have heard: they are famous for no reason. True, they are not famous movie stars, politicians, or sports figures. However, what many don’t realize is they have dominated the beauty and fashion industries, not to mention social media. And one of the Kardashians spoke on Capitol Hill today calling for cosmetic reform.
Kourtney Kardashian was joined by Representative Frank Pallone, Jr. (Democrat, New Jersey) at Capitol Hill.
Together, they addressed the need for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to change their cosmetics regulations. These laws, they believe, are obsolete.
Representative Pallone has previously expressed his belief that the FDA needs to strengthen their regulations. Why? The laws governing cosmetics have been virtually the same for over 80 years.
And while other categories that the FDA regulates have been updated to modern times, cosmetics have not.
Both Representative Pallone and Kourtney Kardashian believe this should
change in order to make certain cosmetics are safe for people in America. So, Representative Pallone in addition to Representative Leonard Lance (Republican, New Jersey) introduced a proposal that would allow the FDA greater regulatory authority in order to make certain cosmetics are safe for use in the United States. As it currently stands, the laws don’t require cosmetic companies to register with the FDA or even provide information on their products and ingredients.
Also, the current regulations don’t require cosmetic companies to test products for safety before consumers use them.
Representative Pallone said, “We owe it to American consumers to do all we can to ensure we have a robust cosmetic regulatory system that ensures the safety of the cosmetic products that Americans purchase and use each day.”
So, how does Kourtney fit into all of this? The Kardashians are giants in the cosmetic industry.
Kylie Jenner has “Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner”. Kim Kardashian has “KKW Beauty by Kim Kardashian West”.
And now Kourtney announced that she is creating a collection with her sister, “Kourt x Kylie Collaboration”.
So, Kourtney being on Capitol Hill with Representative Pallone will bring a greater awareness for the need to change the pre-existing regulations concerning cosmetics in the U.S.
