Step Up Your Gifting Game with a Virtual Wine Tasting Experience

If you’re anything like me, it’s likely that you have trouble gifting something unique and meaningful to that special someone in your life, whether it be your partner or a family member. When I care about someone, I tend to overthink what they might want. But, throughout my experiences, I’ve found that the best gift that delivers time and time again is an unforgettable experience that the two of you can share together. Experiences wind up offering so much more of a value for people than objects. So, when I heard about the Virtual Wine Tasting from Vicarious Wines by Modus Operandi Cellar, I knew right away that it would make the perfect gift for so many people in my life.

How Does a Virtual Tasting Work?

In order to participate in the virtual tasting, you can order it via the Vicarious Wines website. Once your tasting box comes in, you will find four different wines inside of your box, a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir, a Red Blend, and a Cabernet Sauvignon. With it, you will also get a QR code that you can use to log into the website’s back-end where you can watch their videos containing both the instructions and the story of creator, Jason Moore. From there, you can decide how to conduct your tasting and plan accordingly.

What I think is so great about this virtual tasting is that you can spread out your tasting over several days or do it all in one sitting, depending on who you are with and the experience you’d like to have. Basically, you can cater your own tasting experience. Say you’re not too much of a drinker, then you’ll likely want to try one bottle at a time, so you can plan it out for four evenings in a row, schedule it out across four date nights, or set up the schedule as you see fit. If you’re having a group over, you can perhaps, think about drinking all four in a night.

However you decide to experience this, know there is no right or wrong way. Though, it is recommended that you start with the lightest wine and work your way down to the heaviest. To do this, you should start with the Chardonnay followed by the Pinot Noir, then the Red Blend, and finally, end with the Cabernet Sauvignon. But, again, it’s all up to your preference. When you’ve set aside your time and decided to start the first tasting, simply click on the bottle you are going to try in the back-end of the website (it will alert you that once you select that option you will have 24 hours to do the tasting, so be sure to click only once you’re ready), and then you can access the virtual tasting information for each of the wines. Getting to do a wine tasting at your own pace is revolutionary, and I think that’s one of the things that makes this experience truly unique.

Now is the Best Time for Virtual Wine Tasting

When you hear Jason Moore’s story, he explains that there was too much of a demand for wine tasting in his room in Napa Valley. They only offer private experiences there, and it was almost always fully booked, so they had to decline a huge percentage of requests. This was the solution that was created so anyone can experience his wine tasting around the world. It’s a win-win for everyone. But I think, even more than that, now is the absolute perfect time for virtual wine tastings! First, it’s important to mention the digital age and how, after the pandemic, so many things became virtual. We began seeing virtual technology in places we never expected to see it, and I think people are ready for new groundbreaking, digital experiences like this. Also, after the pandemic, many people are still afraid to leave their homes due to the risks. This is a great way to get the benefit of a wine tasting to everyone so anyone can experience it no matter their condition or ability to leave their home.

Quite frankly, this is the future of wine tasting. It’s revolutionary, and I think it’s a fantastic idea that will spread like wildfire.

The Wines Included in the Tasting

Now, during the wine tasting experience, you’ll have the opportunity to add more of the bottles to your shopping cart as you see fit, just as you would at a real wine tasting. The way the back-end of the website is set up, they will hold and populate your full cart until you are completely finished with all of your tastings. At that time, it will consolidate your order of all the wines into one order. This way, you can spread out your tasting over a longer time and not have to worry about a plethora of wine boxes coming to you. It will all come together at once after you have finished your tasting experience.

Here is a quick array of my thoughts on these delicious wines.

Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast- This is a delicious, classic Chardonnay that delivers. With the aroma of apples and a light to medium body, it’s very elegant, fruity, and smooth.

Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast- From a collection of vineyards along the Sonoma Coast, this wine is silky, smooth, rich, and deliciously fruity.

Red Blend, Napa Valley- A bold and balanced Napa Red made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sirah, and Petite Sirah. This is delicious, fruity, dry, and oaky. It’s important to note the blend changes annually.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley- This rich, savory wine is smooth, full, and spicy. Made from Napa Valley deep garnet-purple, fragrant blue and black fruits, it’s also floral and earthy with savory olive hints, a medium to full-body, and has a fresh, firm structure

All in all, I think you can’t go wrong with a virtual wine tasting. With the holidays coming up, I think it’s both the perfect gift for someone you love as well as a great experience you could do with all your loved ones at your next holiday gathering. It’s also just a really fun, inventive, and innovative thing I think everyone should experience.
