Vegan Substitutions at the Cheesecake Factory

Just because
it’s not vegan/vegetarian on The Cheesecake Factory menu, doesn’t mean it can’t be.

I mentioned in an earlier blog, “How To Eat Healthy On The Go“, that it’s easy to find vegetarian options while dining out. Last week, I visited The Cheesecake Factory and I ordered the Parmesan-Herb Crusted Chicken and asked them to substitute the chicken for a breaded portobello mushroom, seasoned, and baked the same way. (You can order it without the parmesan to make it vegan). The cooks even volunteered to make me a mushroom gravy instead of the one that usually has chicken broth. Mmmm mmmph! Talk about good eatin’!

You can make this mushroom substitution with many of their dishes, including their Chicken Piccata, Teriyaki Chicken, Lemon Herb Roasted Chicken, and Louisiana Chicken Pasta. Sometimes the waiters aren’t hip to this, and may try to tell you it’s not possible. Just tell ’em “Tanjareen sent ya.” Or, politely tell the servers you know the chefs can make the switch, and they will.

Remember, portobello mushrooms are one of the only natural ways to get vitamin D besides sunshine, so it’s great to incorporate these hearty caps into meals whenever possible. They are also a great way to cut back on processed soy products. If you wanna have fewer calories and less cholesterol while staying fit as the summer winds down, give this a try!
