When it comes to wine, there are many fantastic activities that come to mind: having a nice glass of wine out in the countryside, attending a wine tasting event, enjoying a nice dinner with a paired glass, and, of course, wine stomping. Were you surprised by that last one? I feel like wine stomping never gets brought up much, but it’s regularly on people’s bucket lists… especially those of us who grew up watching and loving I Love Lucy. So, when Urban Press Winery hosted their Harvest Party and Grape Stomp event, the VIVA GLAM Magazine team just had to show up to participate. And what an incredibly exciting and fulfilling event it was!
When you first arrive at Urban Press Winery, you’ll notice it’s in a booming, popular spot. After all, it is right in the heart of downtown Burbank. The exterior of the restaurant and winery is modern, chic, and inviting. And when you open the door and head inside, it’s as if you get transported to a beautiful spot out in the country. The interior décor is chic, inviting, and modernly rustic (perfect for a winery!) and the outside terrace is beautifully built with wooden decks and pergolas. Even the exterior patio has you feeling as if you are out in the countryside sipping wine. It’s a fantastic environment.
The Harvest Party Event and Wine Stomping allowed attendees to try a variety of signature items offered on the restaurant menu paired perfectly with the delicious wines of Urban Press Winery. While the menu has something for everyone, vegan, vegetarian, and meat-eaters alike, we were thrilled at the vegan options they had available on the menu. The Beet Salad paired with the 2017 Fiore Grenache Blanc was the perfect start to the evening, and the Fava Bean Puree with Roasted Scarole was an incredible vegan treat. Paired with the 2017 Rhoon Rnager Marsanne, it was unforgettable. Their variety of delicious pastas was also extremely unique, and our favorite wines wound up being their Roses, specifically the 2019 Fille de Joie Syrah Rose and the 2019 Fille de Joie Pinot Noir Rose.
You can tell the chef tackled each course with a unique flare and combination of tastes, and it has inspired us to come back any time we’re in the Burbank area. The food was exceptional. And, of course, the wine was perfection!
After an exciting evening of eating and drinking while listening to glorious songs from the 80s that kept us moving, it was time for the wine stomping competition. While we sadly didn’t place, I can say that there’s nothing quite as joyful as stepping into a wooden bucket of fresh grapes and stomping them down into juice. The second you stick your bare feet into the bucket, you can’t help but giggle. And as the competition began, we were stomping, grinding our feet, and finding all sorts of fun ways to stomp to the music. If you ever have the opportunity to stomp grapes in your lifetime, I highly recommend it. So, definitely keep an eye out for future harvest and stomping events at Urban Press Winery. They’re not to be missed.
However, in the meantime, be sure to stop in for any upcoming event or just for an enjoyable dinner and wine tasting experience at Urban Press Winery. The location is prime, the atmosphere is ideal, and the food and wine are exceptional. And right now, Urban Press Winery is participating in the More Than Pink Month in October to help raise breast cancer awareness in association with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Through this partnership, they will have a Pink Menu throughout the month of October and will be donating 35% of profits back to the SGK Foundation from all proceeds collected from their two special wine box sets created for PINK events! So, be sure to come out, support breast cancer awareness, and have the time of your life filled with food, fun, and wine this October!
