The Restaurant Rose at the BioHotel Rose is a Vegan’s Paradise!
Throughout our past adventures in Southern Germany, we’ve found many vegan and vegetarian-friendly places. There are countless accommodating spots throughout Heidelberg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Baden, and Trier; however, we found that the BioHotel Rose’s Restaurant Rose took this to the next level. Tucked snugly in a small town surrounded by greenery and mountains, the BioHotel Rose is a true nature lover’s paradise. It’s located near many caves with prehistoric connections, surrounded by prime hiking spots, and it provides you with the most stunning views of the Swabian Alb’s diverse biosphere. But even more than that, the restaurant and breakfasts on site at the hotel are all 100% organic. They strive for a fully organic whole-foods cuisine that is vegan friendly! Let’s discuss more about this beautiful German restaurant and property.
Chef Simon Tress delivers award-winning cuisine here at the German Restaurant Rose. His meals have been awarded with the green Michelin star. And, of course, the restaurant offers uniquely catered meals that focus on the guest’s special dietary needs, whether that be avoiding certain allergens or providing vegetarian or vegan-friendly meals. However, they take this one step further, as all of their main courses are meat free. You heard that right! All of their main courses are meat free, as meat is only treated as a side dish here at this restaurant so their meals are more accommodating for everyone. They boast that “innovative vegetarian and vegan cuisine is our strength”, and all of their meals are, again, certified organic.
Fitting perfectly with their vegan cuisine, the setting of the Restaurant Rose is also very chic and modern while still being cozy and quiet. You get the picturesque views of this small fairy-tale-like town while sitting inside the chic little spot being served the finest of meals. Here’s a highlight of what we ate during our visit.
For our appetizer, we had vegan tartar in an onion and mushroom sauce, and it was delicious! The mushrooms in the sauce made for a rich and deep taste that was somehow the most savory vegan dish I’ve had to date.
For the main course, we enjoyed vegan goulash with vegan bacon and potato dumplings, spinach, cashew dumplings, and glazed vegetables. Again, this course of the meal was rich, flavorful, and paired with a perfectly matched wine.
The meal ended with a rosemary panna cotta and strawberry shaved ice.
Honestly, each course of the meal was unlike anything I had before. I like that the chef drew inspiration from traditional meals and redesigned them to have a unique but even more delicious flavor to them. I felt as if I was introducing my taste buds to something entirely new, and that was most definitely a good thing. He knew exactly how to play with sauces to accent the food, itself, within the meal.
It’s also important to bring up the wine cellar. This area of Southern Germany is known for its vineyards and wine, so we were able to go down into the cellar and conduct a wine tasting with the chef, himself, who was happy to tell us all about the delicious pairings that go well with his meals. The old ambiance of the wine cellar complete with candle-lit walkway and romantic lighting mixed with the variety of wines made for an exceptional experience. If you have the opportunity to visit the wine cellar on your visit to the Restaurant Rose, you should definitely embrace that opportunity.
As I’m sure you know by now, here at VIVA GLAM Magazine, we LOVE hearing about innovative new places that take their vegan cuisine to the next level, and that’s exactly what we saw at this German Restaurant at the BioHotel Rose! Their luxury, gourmet cuisine, wholefoods organic breakfast, delicious array of wines, and the overall service and experience was unlike anything I had seen before. I had such a wonderful time there, and I hope you get out into the vibrant nature of Germany and embrace Wimsen and its surrounding area while staying at the BioHotel Rose!
