The Runway V Fashion Show Offered a Full Vegan Event at NYFW

Earlier this month, on February 9th, 2019, the Runway V vegan charity fashion show took place at NYFW. We could not be more thrilled here at VIVA GLAM Magazine to hear that veganism and fashion collided at a major fashion event. The event was sponsored by W7 Cosmetics, and makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor was excited to create two looks for the event.  Andrew’s two looks were created to compliment the work of vegan and cruelty-free designers Pelush and Saint Vegan, and he used W7 Cosmetics’ Very Vegan collection to create the looks. The Very Vegan collection is certified by The Vegan Society and features a range of on-trend, vegan-friendly cosmetics for those who follow a plant-based lifestyle.

Andrew spoke about his two different looks for the runway and mentioned the products used for each look. Regarding his first look, for designer Saint Vegan, Andrew said, “I wanted the makeup for Saint Vegan to reflect the CMYK color palette and the unexpected materials Moreno Ferrari used (included up-cycled parachutes!). I wanted the eyes to be a treasure trove of color and sparkle featuring smudged black eye shadow from W7’s Very Vegan Naughty by Nature Palette, plus a hint of Camille Blue cream eye shadow from Cai Para Mi, neon yellow moon and star shaped glitters from Cai Cosmetics, mini Swarovski crystals, and real 24K gold flakes! I made the matte lips pop with the electric pink “Lovely Lilac” Very Vegan Lipstick from W7. Much like the Saint Vegan clothing, which is made without fur, feathers, wool, or leather, I wanted the makeup to prove that you don’t need any animal products to have a cool makeup. It’s literally a treasure trove of color and sparkle.”

Regarding his look for Designer Pelush, Andrew said, “What I found so inspiring about Anna Tagliablue’s luxury faux fur collection for Pelush was how she has really elevated what people think faux fur can be. Each coat or dress is incredibly beautiful, but without the cruel use of dozens of animals per garment.

Every real fur coat that’s ever been made has used dozens and dozens of animals per piece (as many as 60!) and they look super old fashioned. Instead, Anna Tagliabue’s Pelush collection is incredibly beautiful, fashion forward, without harming any living creatures. To me, I wanted the makeup look to feel equally luxurious and rebellious. Using the W7 Very Vegan collection, I created a rock and roll inspired sexy smoky eye paired with a perfect fleshy pink lip. The look works great on every skin tone.”

Eyes:

“I wanted the look to be both reminiscent of the rock and roll, CBGB days of the Lower East Side, but polished and elegant. I smudged black gel liner along the lash line and lid, then layered black eye shadow on the lash line and smudged that all over the lid. To create a mess-free alternative to eye gloss, I layered a shimmer taupe shadow on the inner half of the lids to catch just a bit of light and mimic that cool, “grease black” eye look. It’s a bit of 90s grunge, but super upscale.” Andrew told the press.
