THE GIFT OF GIVING

The gift of giving is healthy for one’s soul. I am not talking about the kind of gifts that come with presents and bows. The kind of gift I am talking about is love, kindness, and selflessness.

I will be the first one to tell you that I am fascinated with science. I love how far we have advanced as the human race. But, when it comes to my food on my plate that where I draw the line.

Studies say that giving time or money to someone in need or a charitable organization increases one’s happiness. I know that I feel great after I have helped someone who needed it. There are so many wonderful charities and organization out there that need your help. Find one that speaks to you and brings meaning for your life. The charities I picked in my life all happened for a reason. Here are some of my personal favorite charities and the reason why I donate them.

SPCA of Texas:

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animal in Texas is a local independent non-profit animal organization serving North Texas that is funded by the community. This great animal organization was established in 1938. It is one of the oldest animal shelters in Texas that houses many great pets until they are placed in a loving home. http://www.spca.org

Why I donate: I donate to the SPCA on a monthly basis after we lost our furry family member Gus, a beautiful Main Coon cat. Seven years ago we built a brand new beautiful home. We were so excited to introduce Gus to his new home. We had been living in our new home for a few weeks when one morning we woke up to discover that the front door was wide open. How that happened, is still a mystery to us. We frantically searched our home and had the neighborhood calling out for Gus. Hours later we had came to the conclusion, Gus was gone. He had never been outside before, so we were scared for him. We posted signs around the neighborhood and local places for a few weeks. We checked local animal shelters and the SPCA was one of them. I had never been to an animal shelter before so I had no idea what to expect. We went to the SPCA in McKinney, Texas which was near our neighborhood. It was beautiful facility for both cats and dogs. I was very impressed. This place struck a chord with my heart. Being an animal lover, I was so sad for the rest of the animals who didn’t have a home. I know that they are in a safe warm place with food, but I wanted to do more. So my husband I decided to donate on a monthly basis in honor of Gus. We never did find Gus but, I like to think that he made his way to a good home. Gus will always hold a place in our hearts.

MZ & Emmers Sports Bra Auction for Brest Cancer

This amazing sports bra auction was formed through a friendship between a professional women’s soccer player McCall Zerboni (MZ) and a family’s little girl Emma Bayer (Emmers) who is five years old.
In July 2011, this great charity team collected 84 sports bras from professional women’s soccer player and World Cup champions to raise money for breast cancer awareness. They were so successful they decided to do it again. This time they wanted all types of women willing to donate in different sports and fitness genres. And they did just that! Some of the famous sports bras that are going to be up for auction in April are Jane Fonda , Gabriele Reece, and many world Olympic athletes. The MZ & Emmers Sports Bra Auction will be the feature charity for eBay Giving Works page in April 2012. Ladies, there is still time to donate. If you would like to donate your sports bra for this great cause, please check out this link.

Why I donated my sports bra for auction: Last year I received an email from David Bayer, cofounder of this loving charity, who is Emma’s father. I could tell immediately through his email he was passionate about the cause.
I checked his auction out on Facebook to see some very impressive autographed sports bras. I was honored that he asked for mine. I decided to sign my September 2011 Natural Muscle magazine sports bra that I wore on the cover, along with that issue of Natural Muscle. Being a woman, how can I not save the ta tas?!

By being involved in organizations that need your help, it makes for a healthier you. So go out there to see how you can make the world a better place. You will be glad you did.
