Switching Up Your Skincare For the Warmer Months: All the Things You Have To Consider

With the temperatures going up, it’s important to take a closer look at your skincare routine and see if it still works for your face. Due to the increase in humidity and sun exposure, chances are that your skin isn’t craving the same products that it used to during the winter. But with so many different options available on the market, it can be a bit overwhelming to transition your routine from cold to hot weather. If you’re looking for ways to switch up your skincare for the warmer months ahead, here are some things that you should consider for your routine.

Take your sun protection up a notch

Sunscreen is a non-negotiable in any skincare routine, but it’s especially crucial during the warmer months when the sun’s rays are more intense. UV rays can cause damage to the skin, leading to premature aging, dark spots, and even skin cancer. It’s important to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF of at least 30 that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Apply it to all areas of exposed skin, including your neck, chest, and hands. Don’t forget to reapply every two hours or more frequently if you’re sweating or swimming. If there’s just one thing that you’ll take away from this article, then let it be this.

Glowing skin = light hydrating layers

Most people produce a lot more sebum during the warmer months. That makes our rich winter moisturizers feel too heavy and suffocating. Therefore, it’s important to switch to lightweight, oil-free moisturizers or serums that are hydrating but won’t clog your pores. Gel-based moisturizers and hydrating serums are perfect for this time of year, as they provide ample hydration without the heavy feeling. You can also use other light hydrating products, such as toners and essences that are a real benefit when switching up your skincare for the warmer months.

Freshen up with facial mists

Facial mists and thermal waters are the perfect refreshments for your skin on hot summer days.  They can help to cool and soothe the skin, while also providing a boost of hydration. Thermal waters are my personal favorite, because they are affordable, soothing, and come in a variety of sizes. However, if you prefer facial mists, look for something with ingredients such as aloe vera, green tea, and cucumber, which have calming and hydrating properties. You can keep the mist in your purse or at your desk for a quick pick-me-up throughout the day.

Always double cleanse

Double cleansing is a crucial step in any skincare routine, but it’s especially important during the warmer months. Sweating and increased oil production can lead to clogged pores, which can cause breakouts. Start with an oil-based cleanser to remove any makeup, sunscreen, or impurities from the skin’s surface. Follow up with a gentle water-based cleanser to remove any remaining dirt and oil. This will not only help you remove your makeup, but also any remaining waterproof sunscreen, debris, and sebum.

Add antioxidants to your routine

Antioxidants are essential in any skincare routine, but they’re particularly important during sunny days. Exposure to the sun can cause damage to the skin, leading to premature aging and hyperpigmentation. Antioxidants, such as vitamin C and green tea, help to protect the skin from environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. They boost the efficiency of your sunscreen, while also helping you combat any hyperpigmentations that the sun may cause. You should definitely consider them when switching up your skincare for the warmer months.
