Struggling With Motivation During Summer? Here’s How to Get Back on Track Even During the Heat

Summer is just around the corner, and even though the warm weather and constant sunshine lift our moods, it can be challenging to stay motivated and actually get some work done. It does not matter if you’re working in an office, hospital, or even as a remote worker – knowing that you have to focus on anything else than getting a tan can be slightly depressing. If you’re like me, and get easily distracted the moment the temperatures are above 80 degrees F, here are some of my favorite tips for motivation during summer.

Alter Your Routine

If you’re someone with a flexible working schedule, then why not alter your routine? One of the greatest ways to stay motivated during the summer is to adapt your work routine to the season. This means taking advantage of the early mornings and cooler temperatures. Wake up earlier and do your most important tasks first thing in the morning. You’ll have extra time to enjoy your summer activities while still keeping your work routine intact. I know that this won’t work for everyone. However, waking up earlier and getting things done while you’re rested and the temperatures are chilly is never a bad idea. Even if it just means going for a run.

Slow Beginnings and Endings

Starting and ending your day on a positive note can also help you stay motivated and productive. In the mornings, consider taking some time for light exercise, meditation, or journaling. These activities can help to clear your mind and set a positive tone for the day ahead. Similarly, ending your day with a relaxing activity such as reading a book, taking a bath, or listening to music can help you unwind and recharge for the next day. By taking care of yourself and your mental health, you’ll be better equipped to handle the challenges of the day and stay motivated.

Create Reasonable To-Do Lists

Making a to-do list can help you keep organized and focused during the summer. However, it is essential to make a reasonable to-do list that you will actually stick to. Be realistic about your daily goals and organize your chores properly. I know that it can be tempting to add a full week’s worth of work to your list, but that won’t help you in any way. Be honest about how long it takes you to complete a task and don’t forget to also include some time for breaks. You can go outside and enjoy the sunshine while you’re taking some time off.

Reward Yourself at the End of a Productive Day

In many ways, we are just like kids. And that means that we’ll feel a lot more motivated if we choose something to reward ourselves with after a stressful and work-packed day. Choose a reward that means something to you and that you know you’ll enjoy. It may be as easy as eating your favorite ice cream or resting in a bubble bath. Celebrating your accomplishments, no matter how small they may be, will give you that extra boost of drive that you need. Recognizing your efforts will increase your chances of maintaining momentum and getting more work done in the future. In other words, it will keep you motivated during the summer heat.
