Returning To Work After Your Vacation: How To Survive The First Few Days

Returning to work after a vacation feels so unfair. Yes, I know that we have to work. But why can’t life be a bit more about sipping cocktails on a beach and a little less about replying to emails? So, it’s no surprise that the blues kick in for a lot of us the moment we have to go back to our usual routines. Luckily, with some preparation, and a little bit of effort returning to work after a vacation doesn’t have to be a nightmare anymore. Here are our favorite tips to keep you positive, motivated, and ready to climb that corporate ladder.

Plan ahead

No one wants to think about work while they are on vacation. However, making a quick plan just before heading back to work can be a huge game changer when it comes to work-related anxiety. It will help you stay focused and motivated while giving you a realistic view of all of your work-related goals for the following week. I wouldn’t recommend doing that while you’re on your actual vacation, because it could kill your work-life balance. However, writing a quick checklist the night before going back to work can work wonders. Especially if you’re not sure where to start.

Let’s face it — working is a priority

Let me put it this way — you wouldn’t have been able to afford your vacation it you didn’t work. And if you continue to work really hard, you’ll be on the way to your next adventure sooner than you know. If that doesn’t help you see work as a priority then I don’t know what will. I’m not saying that your whole life should revolve around your job title. But just appreciating the fact that you have a stable workplace to go back to should mean something in today’s day and age.

Ease into it

One of the most common mistakes people make when returning to work is trying to do too much too soon. If you’ve been away for a week or more, it’s going to take a little time to get back into the swing of things. Don’t try to jump right back in where you left off. Instead, take a few days to ease back into your routine. Start with the most important tasks and work your way up to the more time-consuming ones. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.

Organization is key

Another way to reduce stress when returning to work is to get organized. While that doesn’t sound like some groundbreaking advice, it’s always a great place to start. Take some time to go through your emails, prioritize your tasks, and create a to-do list for the first few days back. This will help you stay focused and on track. If you have a lot of tasks to complete, consider breaking them down into smaller, more manageable tasks. This will make it easier to stay motivated and avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Don’t forget about yourself either

Even though you’re back at work, you can still enjoy some relaxing moments throughout the work week. Getting enough rest, eating versatile and healthy meals, and just allowing your mind to unwind after a stressful day are all important things to consider. No matter what your job title may be, nothing is more important than your physical and mental health. And to stay on top of that, you have to make sure that all of your needs are met. Take breaks throughout the day, treat yourself from time to time, and take s short walk to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh air whenever you feel overwhelmed.
