What’s your favorite part about playing Tess?
I would say, [I admire] just how independent and strong she is. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her. She thinks I’m going to read my books and do my thing. You can either follow my lead or not. She’s very in control.
Has playing Tess helped you learn anything about yourself?
Usually, I go back to my regular self, but after filming for four months, sometimes I do catch myself doing Tess-like things. I’ll [be very] headstrong and say “You can follow me on this adventure or you can stay here.” And it’s just to get pizza. That’s about it.
There have only been a handful of mysteries on Nick ever! Were you nervous to tackle this genre for kids? What has been the feedback?
I still am a bit nervous, in a way, wondering what people are thinking, if the fans like it, or if the mystery is good enough? You always think those things about a show. But I think we’ve got really great feedback about it. The kids love it. I love seeing the family pictures on Instagram [captioning] “Hunter Street tonight!” It’s so cute. They huddle up and watch it.
What can we look forward to in season 2?
There’s some new characters and I think that there’s double the mystery, more locations. We even filmed at a Dutch castle. There’s a lot of stuff going on!
New episodes of “Hunter Street” air at 7pm on Nickelodeon until the end of February. You can follow MaeMae on Instagram here.
