There are some women who never let their husbands see them without makeup – ever. In fact, some husbands have never seen their wives bare faces. Is this the secret to a happy marriage, or the result of frail female insecurity?
A recent survey found that a third of women get up earlier than their husbands to apply makeup in secret before they wake up. One participant said she sets her alarm clock at 4am every morning and leaves her sleeping husband in bed. She then goes to the bathroom and removes the makeup she was wearing that night. And then she reapplies new makeup for the day.
One advocate of this practice is celebrity makeup guru, Charlotte Tilbury, who admits that both her ex-husband and new husband have never seen her without makeup.
She believes this keeps the mystery alive in her relationships. But many experts wonder if this is healthy for a marriage?
Relationship expert and psychologist, Jo Hemmings, said, “In most relationships there usually comes a point when women become secure that they’re loved for who they are, as well as for what they look like.
They let their guard down and gradually stop wearing mascara and lipstick until their partner sees them bare- faced.
To be married, or in a long-term relationship, and still feel the need to be fully made-up at all times isn’t healthy.”
What do you think?
Do you feel the need to wear makeup at all times around your partner? And if so, why? Or do you feel comfortable au naturel?
