Infused Water — The Ultimate Summer Refreshment: How To Do It Right

Summer is finally here, but as exciting as that is, it can be a living nightmare for all of us who just forget to drink enough liquids. Being chronically dehydrated isn’t cute, and it certainly isn’t good for our bodies. So if you need some motivation to be on top of your hydration game, why not try out infusing your water? This isn’t a new or revolutionary practice, however, it’s a great trick for all of us who simply don’t enjoy drinking plain water. Infused water will not only keep your body hydrated but it’s also packed with vitamins and antioxidants. So let’s go over everything you have to know about infusing your water.

Choosing the water

When making infused water, the type of water you use is essential. Ideally, you want to use purified or filtered water to ensure that you’re getting the cleanest and freshest water possible. You can use tap water, but be aware that the taste of the infused water may be affected by any chemicals or impurities. If you’re using tap water, consider boiling it first, or investing in a tap water filter. My personal favorite is sparkling water. It will add a little bit of spice to your drink, while also giving you the benefit of some additional minerals.

The right bottle

The next thing you’ll need is a bottle to infuse your water in. You can use any type of bottle, but ideally, you want to use a bottle that’s made of glass or BPA-free plastic. Glass bottles are great because they don’t leach any chemicals into the water, and they’re easy to clean. BPA-free plastic bottles are also a good option, but make sure they’re high-quality and don’t have any scratches or cracks. These can harbor bacteria and affect the taste of the water. But a good old Mason jar will do the trick as well.

What to infuse the water with

The next thing you have to decide is what to infuse your water with. The beauty of infused water is that you can use any combination of fruits, vegetables, and herbs that you like. However, if you’re a beginner I would suggest not going overboard. At least on your first try. Opt for something that you know you’ll like. Here are some of my favorite options.

Citrus Fruits: This is the most popular option. Lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits are all great options. They won’t only add a refreshing taste to your water, but they are also packed with Vitamin C.

Berries: Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries add a sweet and tart taste to your water while also being packed with antioxidants.

Cucumber: A cucumber is a great second addition to your infused water. It pairs well with most other options due to its neutral flavor, but still adds a subtle and refreshing taste.

Mint: If you want to make your infused water even more refreshing, then try adding a few fresh mint leaves. Mint adds a cooling taste and pairs amazingly with most other options. It can also help your digestion.

Watermelon: Watermelon will add a sweet and refreshing taste to your water, and it’s also packed with various vitamins and minerals. It’s a great option for those hot summer days when you crave something sweet and uplifting.

How To Store The Water

Once you’ve infused your water, it’s essential to store it properly to ensure it stays fresh and delicious. Infused water should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within 24-48 hours. After that, the fruits and vegetables can start to break down, affecting the taste of the water.
