How to Make Your Lips Look Bigger

Lips has always been a very popular feature to accentuate, but it has become even more popular since Kylie Jenner came out with her sexy, fully-injected pout. The obsession to “have her lips” in order to look sexy has started.

Besides lip injections, we see companies making products such as lip plumpers, lip shapers, and all kinds of beauty tools to achieve that look. But we’ve seen good jobs and we’ve seen horrible jobs! So why is it that while a little help or trick can help some women but can really hurt others?

Looking back at the history of beauty, women such as Grace Kelly or Farrah Fawcett didn’t need big lips to become some of the sexiest women of all time. It’s because beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Once again, it is the combination of several qualities. So in this case, the bigger, doesn’t necessary mean the better.

No matter what era we live in, one beauty rule always applies. It is the rule of the golden ratio, also known as the “divine proportion”. Without going into the mathematics of the golden ratio, let me give you a few easy examples of how it applies to the lips.

For example:

Jennifer Aniston has a long chin compared to the rest of her face. If she enlarged her bottom lip, it would complement her face. This is why Ashlee Simpson looked better after she got her lips done. She also has a longer chin.

On the other hand, Hillary Clinton has a shorter chin. Getting her lips enlarged would not complement her face. The same applies to Cameron Diaz.

Megan Fox’s face is perfectly semetrical according to the golden ratio so she benefits nicely from the overall lip enhancement.

Steps to bigger lips

Now, if you prefer to stay natural and just enhance your lips with makeup, here are a few tips.

  1. Exfoliate your lips.
  2. Use a face moisturizer that your lips will absorb instead of using a lip balm or anything too waxy that would leave a film on top.
  3. Choose a matte lip color or lip stain instead of a cream lipstick.
  4. Choose a lip liner a shade or two darker than your lips.
  5. Smile and raise your chin so you see your whole pout. Lay the pencil flat against your lips so the tip of the pencil is half above your lips and half on your lips. DO NOT DRAW like you would with a normal pencil. Blend a thick line into and above your lips to feather it.
  6. Fill in the rest of your lips with a shade lighter lip liner or stain.

Another way to make your lips to look bigger is to use the ombre technique. I suggest the soft ombre look versus the extreme ombre look, unless you’re a drag queen or a theatre performer. The more simple the makeup looks, the more natural and feminine it appeals.
