Womenās Sports Participation is Growing
In Canada, womenās sport participation has grown significantly, with around 63% of girls aged between 6 and 18 regularly taking part in sports activities. While this is still slightly lower than the stats for boys, there has been huge growth.
A survey revealed that 60% of people believed that perceptions of womenās sport had improved over the last three years. Social acceptance has been a barrier for many women, particularly those interested in playing sports that have not traditionally been played by women.

Female-centric movie storylines have become common, with more movies that women can resonate with. The live music industry has become more welcoming to diverse audiences, with female music artists leading a change in the experience of live shows. Artists such as Taylor Swift and Beyonce have dominated music awards and best selling charts for the last decade, with music that women connect with on a deeper level.
While there are still a lot of barriers for women in pursuing entertainment options that are traditionally not viewed as suitable for women by some segments of society, in progressive countries such as Canada, there has been a huge positive shift in perceptions. Women have more financial freedom to access activities and the spaces that were traditionally dominated by males are becoming more inclusive.
