How Is a Face Lift Performed?

A face lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to improve a person’s aging facial appearance. There are a number of medical, surgical, and non-surgical methods used for this type of treatment. Many people, however, prefer a board-certified plastic surgeon because of the qualifications and expertise needed to carry out a successful operation.

Planning

Before actually going into the details of the procedure, a patient must first consult a good plastic surgeon, like the one you can watch here:

This is important because every patient needs to be guided to make the right decisions. Likewise, they need to be assured that their preferences are successfully achieved.

Once the physician hears and approves the patient’s decision, both parties can proceed to plan how they want the enhancements to be like. Thus, the physician will ask the patient to undergo testing and bloodwork to know how they can move forward.

Anesthesia

A face lift can be performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia.  Local anesthesia with IV sedation is often called the twilight anesthesia. General anesthesia involves a gas given through a tube inserted into your windpipe. Your surgeon will discuss what type of anesthesia is best for you.

Mark Lines On The Patient’s Face

Marking is necessary to ensure that the sculpting process is successful. In marking the face, the surgeon draws lines that’ll serve as guides for the next procedure. This allows the surgeon to work with grace and finesse, limiting the chances of mistakes during the entire process.

Make An Incision

In face lift procedures, for instance, the first incision is usually done at the hairline and goes around the ear until it reaches the lower scalp. This allows the plastic surgeon to successfully sculpt the face and remove unnecessary fat that’s present in the area.

This is, however, the traditional way to do it. A more modern way of doing it is by performing shorter incisions at the temples and continue around the ear.

Closing The Incisions

Once the surgeon is finished taking out the excess fat and ensuring that the sculpting is done correctly and flawlessly, they need to close the incisions that were earlier made.

Some incisions will be closed using sutures that’ll dissolve or will need to be taken out after a few days or weeks.

Over time, the scars will fade through the use of medication, which will be prescribed to the client post-operation.

Resting

Instruction will be given to you post op regarding ambulation.  Complete bedrest is avoided in most surgical procedures to prevent blood clots.  Post op instructions are given regarding eating, drinking, and diet.  There is not a significant amount of swelling but changes will continue to occur up to three to six months post op.

Conclusion

Cosmetic surgery has become more of an accepted norm. All ethnicities are having cosmetic procedures. These procedures help boost self-esteem and help make people feel better about themselves.

Your body is your temple, and you, as a person, are entitled to your own way of honoring it. Face lifting is a beautiful process that allows people to make themselves look even more beautiful than they already are. This also makes people look younger.

Both men and women are allowed to undergo such operation. Thus, if you’re planning to undergo a face lift, you need to be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared for the upcoming changes you’re about to make.
