From Personal Loss to Purpose: How Elizabeth Akomolafe Is Redefining the Way We Think About Water

Most of us rarely stop to think about the water we drink. It is one of life’s simplest necessities—something we often take for granted. But for Elizabeth Akomolafe, founder of Viuearth, water became the beginning of a much deeper journey.

What started as unimaginable personal loss evolved into a mission to help people become more intentional about their health and daily choices. In this conversation, Elizabeth shares the deeply personal story behind Viuearth, explains why she believes hydration is about far more than quenching thirst, and discusses the philosophy of intentional living that shapes every decision behind her growing premium water brand.

Many companies are born from business opportunities, but some are born from deeply personal moments. Would you tell us about the loss in your family that inspired you to get into the water business?

Viuearth was born from a period in my life that changed me forever.

Within a relatively short period of time, I lost both my mother and my sister. Losing two of the most important people in my life forced me to reflect deeply on health, wellness, and the things we often take for granted until they’re gone.

Their passing inspired me to pursue something meaningful—a health and wellness brand that could positively impact people’s lives. But the journey to water specifically became personal in an unexpected way.

For years, I suffered from severe muscle pulls that would wake me up in the middle of the night three or four times a week. My doctor attributed it to a lack of potassium, but despite adjusting, the problem persisted.

One night, during a particularly painful muscle pull, I drank a large amount of water. Within a short time, the muscle relaxed. I didn’t think much of it until it happened again on another occasion. Once again, I drank water, and once again the cramp eased.

That was my lightbulb moment.

I realized that despite drinking water regularly, I was likely not hydrating effectively and was living in a state of chronic dehydration without even knowing it. That experience led me down a path of learning everything I could about hydration, water quality, and how something so basic could have such a profound impact on how we feel.

Viuearth became the intersection of those two journeys—honoring the memory of my mother and sister while helping people make better choices for their health through something as fundamental as water.

The water business is tough and highly competitive. Do you have a unique approach that helps Viuearth stand out?

Absolutely.

Many water companies sell hydration. We sell intention.

We are not trying to be the biggest water company. We are trying to create a product that reflects how people want to live—more consciously, more mindfully, and with greater attention to their health and well-being.

What makes Viuearth different is that we view water as more than a commodity. Water is something we consume every day, yet most people never stop to think about its quality, its source, or its impact on their health.

Every decision we make—from purification to mineral balance to packaging—is guided by a simple question: “Would I confidently give this to my own family every day?”

Viuearth is not just about drinking water. It is about helping people make one better choice each day.

Viuearth encourages intentional living. What does “living intentionally” personally mean to you?

To me, intentional living means refusing to go through life on autopilot.

It means being thoughtful about how I spend my time, what I consume, who I surround myself with, and what kind of legacy I want to leave behind.

Life can become very busy, and it’s easy to make decisions out of habit rather than purpose. Intentional living requires us to pause and ask whether our daily choices align with our values.

For me, that means prioritizing faith, family, health, meaningful relationships, and building businesses that create positive impact.

At its core, intentional living is about making conscious choices rather than simply reacting to life.

Entrepreneurship often asks us to sacrifice things for our vision. What did you have to sacrifice for Viuearth?

The biggest sacrifice has been certainty.

There is comfort in knowing what tomorrow looks like, receiving a steady paycheck, and following a predictable path. Entrepreneurship asks you to trade that certainty for possibility.

Building Viuearth has required long hours, financial investment, personal risk, and countless moments where the outcome was far from guaranteed.

There were many times when choosing the safer path would have been easier. But I believed that if we could create a product that genuinely helped people and reflected our values, it would be worth the sacrifice.

Entrepreneurship is not simply about building a business. It is about believing in a vision strongly enough to pursue it when there are no guarantees.

When it comes to processing your water, we noticed you mention both reverse osmosis purification and vapor-distilled, mineral-balanced water. Could you explain the difference?

Both reverse osmosis and vapor distillation are highly effective purification methods, but they work differently.

Reverse osmosis uses advanced filtration technology to remove contaminants, dissolved solids, and unwanted substances from water by pushing it through a specialized membrane.

Vapor distillation mimics nature’s water cycle. Water is heated into vapor, leaving impurities behind, and then condensed back into water. This process produces exceptionally pure water.

At Viuearth, we focus on achieving an extremely high level of purity before carefully adding a balanced blend of essential minerals and electrolytes to enhance both taste and hydration.

The result is clean, crisp, refreshing water that is intentionally crafted for quality.

What electrolytes and minerals are added to Viuearth?

We add a carefully balanced blend of essential electrolytes and minerals, including calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

These minerals are added in measured amounts to create a smooth taste profile while supporting hydration.

We believe water should taste clean, refreshing, and balanced—not overly processed or artificially enhanced. The minerals help us achieve that balance while maintaining the purity that defines Viuearth.

I have personally visited the source of Fiji Water in the mountains of Viti Levu, Fiji, because I wanted to know whether the water is truly bottled there. Where does Viuearth water come from?

One of the unique aspects of Viuearth is that we utilize different water sources depending on the product format, while maintaining the same commitment to quality and purity.

For example, some of our products source water from the Ouachita Mountains, a region known for its natural water resources. Other products begin with municipal water sources that undergo our extensive purification process.

What is most important to us is not simply where the water starts, but how it is transformed before it reaches the consumer.

We believe consumers deserve transparency. While many brands focus their story exclusively on the source, our focus is on the quality of the finished product. Through advanced purification, including reverse osmosis and vapor distillation, followed by careful mineral balancing, we create water that is exceptionally clean, crisp, and refreshing.

At Viuearth, the source matters, but the process matters just as much. Our commitment is to deliver a consistently premium hydration experience regardless of where the water originates.

When I see bottled water displayed outside gas stations in direct sunlight, I find it disturbing. Did you choose glass bottles over plastic only because of the waste issue, or also because of health concerns?

It was both.

Sustainability was certainly part of the decision, but so was product integrity.

Consumers today are becoming increasingly aware of what comes into contact with their food and beverages. Glass is one of the most inert packaging materials available and helps preserve the purity and taste of the water.

We wanted a package that reflected the quality of what was inside. Glass offers a premium drinking experience while also supporting our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

For us, it was never just about reducing waste. It was about protecting the quality of the product from bottling to consumption.

Is that also one of the reasons why you chose to position Viuearth in the luxury sector?

I actually prefer the word “premium” over “luxury.”

When people hear luxury, they often think about exclusivity, or something reserved for a select few. That has never been our vision.

Our goal is to create a premium product that remains accessible. We want people to enjoy higher-quality water, thoughtful packaging, and a better hydration experience without feeling like they are purchasing a status symbol.

To me, premium means paying attention to the details. It means investing in better purification, better ingredients, better packaging, and a better overall experience.

Water is something we consume every day. We believe everyone deserves access to a product that reflects care, quality, and intentionality.

At Viuearth, we are not trying to make water exclusive. We are trying to make quality attainable.

What message would you like to leave our readers with?

The most important things in life are often the things we take for granted.

Water is one of them.

My hope is that people become more intentional about what they consume, how they care for their bodies, and the choices they make every day. Health is not built through one dramatic decision—it is built through thousands of small decisions made consistently over time.

Whether it’s the water you drink, the food you eat, the relationships you nurture, or the way you spend your time, those choices shape your future.

If Viuearth can encourage even one person to pause, think more intentionally, and make a healthier choice, then we have accomplished something far greater than selling a bottle of water.

Because wellness is not about perfection. It is about making better choices, one day and one sip at a time.

Takeaway

Elizabeth Akomolafe reminds us that entrepreneurship is not always driven by market trends or business opportunities. Sometimes, the most meaningful companies are born from life’s most difficult moments. Through Viuearth, she has transformed personal grief into a purpose-driven brand built on wellness, mindfulness, and a commitment to quality.

Whether discussing hydration, entrepreneurship, or the importance of living intentionally, one message remains clear: our health is shaped not by one extraordinary decision, but by the countless small choices we make every day. And perhaps, as Elizabeth suggests, even something as simple as a glass of water deserves a little more thought.
