Finding Flora to Boost Your Well-being

Our understanding of what true well-being entails has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. It’s not enough to be physically fit – well-being also encompasses emotional wellness and even spiritual fulfillment.

So how are we supposed to enhance our well-being in this hectic, always-on contemporary society in which we find ourselves? Well, here are three suggestions to get you started.

Forest bathing

Forest bathing originated in Japan, where it is called shinrin-yoku. Quite simply, it is a way of using nature to get calm and destress. There’s something incredibly liberating about seeing and sensing greenery all around you.

Reconnecting with nature is an excellent way of achieving inner peace. Away from the distractions of modern life, you are surrounded by the sounds of the trees rustling in the breeze, of insects buzzing, and of birds calling.

The practice is backed up by studies that have shown how positive forest bathing can be. A 40-minute forest walk was found to improve individuals’ moods and to reduce their levels of cortisol (the stress hormone).

CBD

From massage oils to gummy bears, there are plenty of ways to experience Cannabidiol (CBD). Its effectiveness stems from the way it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. This system of cannabinoid receptors delivers positive effects when it comes into contact with CBD.

CBD is a non-euphoriant, anti-inflammatory analgesic, which many people use to promote physical wellbeing. Studies have shown it to be safe and effective in treating central and peripheral neuropathic pain, rheumatoid arthritis and cancer pain.

Others use CBD for emotional wellness. Harvard Medical School reports that it is commonly used to address anxiety, while studies suggest that it may help users both to fall asleep and to stay asleep – great news for those who suffer from insomnia.

Seaweed

Whether you consume it in capsule form, smear it all over your skin or immerse yourself in a bath of it, seaweed has plenty of health benefits. There are more than 10,000 species of seaweed and they are packed full of vitamins and minerals and are believed to help the body fight disease. As well as this, the plant is also known to lower blood pressure and promote heart health.

When applied to the skin, as a wrap or a mask, seaweeds deliver a range of benefits. They soothe while also fighting ageing, thanks to the way that their amino acids plump up the skin. They deliver hydration through their humectants and vitamin E, and they’re also ideal for achieving a clearer complexion, with minerals such as omega, zinc and magnesium fighting infection and providing protection against harsh weather. The presence of vitamins B and C in seaweed means that the plant can also help to heal the skin after excessive sun exposure.

Achieving well-being the natural way

So there you have it – three very different but all very natural ways to enhance your sense of wellbeing using natural green resources. Given that happiness has been proven to have a wide range of health benefits, from lowering blood pressure to boosting the immune system, focusing on wellbeing should be a top priority for those looking to live a long and healthy life!
