What is clarifying shampoo and do you need it?
If you’ve ventured down the shampoo and conditioner aisle at your local drug store, you might have noticed a product labeled “clarifying shampoo”. And you might have wondered what this actually is and if you really needed to purchase it or not. I mean, how is it any different than your regular shampoo? How often do you need to use it? And how bad must your hair really be to need something like this?
Basically, on occasion we could all use it. Why? Clarifying shampoo is like your regular shampoo but it deep cleans more. Your regular shampoo will rid your hair of excess oil, dirt, pollution and residue brought on by the day. But a clarifying shampoo is stronger and will get rid of styling products such as hair spray, mousse and gel that build up on your hair after repeated use. Think about it, after weeks of build up, styling products can literally coat the shaft of your hair. This type of build up can make your hair look dull and lifeless.
By using a clarifying shampoo, you strip the hair follicle of build-up, thereby bringing back the bounce and shine into your hair. In other words, you hair will look healthier than before.
Clarifying shampoos can be drying, so it is best to use an intensive conditioner after, especially if you’ve been in swimming pools or at the beach, as that will always dry out your hair anyways. So, the next time you’re at the drug store, try a clarifying shampoo if you haven’t already. You just might be surprised by the results, especially if you use hair products on a daily basis to style your hair.
Remember, a clarifying shampoo will remove excess residue. Then, follow up with a moisturizing conditioner, and your hair will become shiny, soft and oh so sexy!
