Clothing Items Every Man Should Have in Their Wardrobe

No man’s wardrobe can be considered complete. It’s always in a state of flux and will be evolving with the seasons and with annual menswear trends. Of course, there are no specific rules to men’s fashion but it’s generally considered that all men should at least have one good suit and a decent pair of trainers. But what other vestments should all men have in their wardrobe?

Every man should have these staple items in their wardrobe to not only create statement fashion looks but have a full ensemble ready to go at a moment’s notice.

A decent watch

There’s something about having a decent watch, something that works just as well as a fashion statement as a timekeeping device. While the rise in smartwatches such as the Fitbit and the Apple Watch has certainly taken off in recent years, there is no replacement for a classic watch from a classic brand. Maybe treat yourself to a pre-owned Rolex watch and base the rest of your wardrobe around it.

A good white shirt

A clean, crisp white shirt with a button-down collar made from a strong and comfortable fabric is something you can wear in almost any situation. Match it with a tie and a slim-cut suit and you have a classic work outfit, or wear it untucked with jeans or shorts and you have the perfect outfit for a summer day on the beach.

A quality utility shirt

Utility shirts, with their multiple pockets and rugged durability, offer both functionality and style, making them a must-have in any man’s wardrobe. They’re perfect for a casual day out or for adding a bit of edge to a more formal ensemble. You can shop green utility shirts and effortlessly pair them with grey jeans or chinos for a look that’s both stylish and practical. You may also layer them over a graphic tee for a more relaxed aesthetic.

A pair of chinos

While you’re relaxing at home, there’s nothing wrong with chilling out in your jogging bottoms. But for daily use, a good pair of chinos sits right between the formal nature of suit trousers and the informal nature of jeans. Ideal for the office. As far as trousers are concerned, it doesn’t get much more flexible than chinos. You can wear them to the office, to the pub or to the park and you’ll always be comfortable.

A sturdy pair of jeans

A well-made pair of jeans should feel as comfortable as a pair of pyjamas. When worn with a classic Oxford shirt and a pair of Converse trainers you have perhaps the archetypal British “man in his twenties or thirties” look but the best jeans can be worn with just about anything. Some might think there’s wisdom in owning dozens of average pairs of jeans that will probably fall apart in a year (usually in the crotch). But we’d say three or four good pairs of jeans should be all you need.

A stylish pair of sunglasses

A really good pair of sunglasses could potentially last you a lifetime. Look for a brand that suits your personality and face shape and invest in bespoke lenses if you wear glasses. Spend some time choosing a pair that really feels like you and they’ll hopefully become a cornerstone of your look.
