I recently went on a girlfriend’s getaway weekend to Calistoga Ranch, an Auberge Resort, which is an intimate, beautiful hotel located halfway between St. Helena and Calistoga, near Napa Valley off the Silverado Trail. The resort resembles a vintner’s vast estate on 157 acres in a secluded valley. We arrived on a Friday night and were greeted by staff with the resort’s own Chardonnay, which was perfectly crisp and refreshing. We immediately went to The Lakehouse restaurant, where the chef prepared a five-course vegan tasting menu for me, with produce from the resort’s own greenhouse and a regional California inspired menu for my friend Laura.
We checked into our cedar-shingled suite, one of 50 on the property, which was comprised of two separate structures with a spacious outdoor deck featuring a whirlpool. The master suite was housed separately, featuring a large soaking tub and an outdoor shower. I loved the signature Calistoga Ranch amenities with bay laurel and eucalyptus-scented botanically pure hair care and body products. The living room had floor to ceiling windows with a gas fireplace, refrigerator and a second bathroom.
The design of the suite is meant to reflect the area’s natural surroundings with polished woods and hues of copper, olive, sage and gold.
The next morning, we went to the resort’s spa, situated on the banks of the spring-fed Lake Lommel, designed to pay tribute to Calistoga, known for healing mineral waters. The spa features a natural mineral pool, outdoor relaxation lounge, whirlpool and steam room. We both enjoyed the 90-minute Pacific Ultimate Ant-Aging Facial, comprised of marine antioxidants, peptides and essential fatty acids from the Pacific Rim and Pacific Ocean. The facial ended with a sculpting facial massage, which resulted in a visible lift. We were glowing just in time for wine tasting!
Calistoga Ranch is located near top wineries, including Duckhorn, Twomey, Frank Family Vineyards, Silver Oak and Schramsberg. I was impressed with all of the wineries, especially Schramsberg, which dates back to the late 1800’s as a leading vintner for sparkling wines, and has been popular with the White House over the years. The Sauvignon Blanc from Twomey was my favorite and we enjoyed walking around the scenic vineyards. Laura loved the Pinot Noir from Silver Oak and the winemaker was very knowledgeable and welcoming. I would highly recommend staying at Calistoga Ranch when wine tasting, for the ultimate romantic getaway experience, or in my case, a fun weekend with a good friend.
