6 Summer Fashion Tips for Your Next Trip Abroad

Spring is in full bloom, and we are fast approaching that glorious time of the year when temperatures rise and the sun stays a permanent fixture in the sky⎯summertime. This is a season where most of the world can start wearing lighter clothes and swap jeans and jumpers for dresses and shorts.

Most of us have a summer wardrobe, which is amazing, but what about clothes specifically for your summer vacation? This is often a time when we get to explore the world and jet off to a new destination, so it’s only natural that we want to look good while doing this!

To that end, I have created six simple summer fashion tips that should help you look fantastic but also feel comfortable when you next travel abroad.

1. Ditch the Accessories

I get that accessorizing for a summer trip is part of the fun, but lots of jewelry and accessories can also weigh you down and make you feel uncomfortable. Imagine having lots of bangles and bracelets on your sweaty wrists or a necklace rubbing against your skin.

Instead, why not try an understated simplistic look that puts emphasis on your clothing and figure, as opposed to the accessories you are wearing? Doing this will allow you to look great but enjoy heading out on summer adventures too.

2. Loose-fitting and Flowy Clothing is Better

When traveling and exploring exciting destinations around the world in the summer, you don’t want to be wearing skin-tight clingy clothes.

Doing so would be a recipe for disaster, and this type of clothing can soon make you feel uncomfortable. There is nothing worse than feeling your jeans or leggings sticking to your legs and chafing as you are trying to explore a new city!

Loose-fitting and breathable clothes are your friend and will help you regulate your body temperature while still looking incredible!

3. Light Colors are Stylish and Practical

In the summer, it’s a great idea to pack light colors as they have two benefits. Firstly, they generally complement warm weather and look fantastic.

Secondly, they don’t absorb the sunlight as much as dark clothes, so you won’t get ridiculously hot in them! Colors like black will absorb much more sunlight and can cause you to sweat more quickly and feel sticky.

4. Be Sun Safe!

I love getting a tan, but I don’t want my skin to suffer from sun damage! Because of this, my fourth tip is to always make your summer holiday outfits sun safe. I get that this can be a pain, but the otherwise negative consequences are potentially life-changing.

The simplest thing to do is pack a few different sun hats⎯you can have fun with these and there are plenty of stylish designs available that will protect your head and face from the sun but still allow you to look incredible.

5. Play With Combinations and Mix and Match

We all know that travel is great for your well-being, and an aspect of this is using your creativity and mind to pick out different outfits and combos. As you will have limited packing space, a great tip is to look at the summer clothes you have and see which items could be used to create multiple outfits.

For example, you might have a pair of shorts that would look great with a few different tops, or sandals that would match with both dresses and short/t-shirt combos. Mixing and matching means that you can get more out of the clothes you pack and have multiple outfit combo options for each day.

6. Check the Expected Temperatures for the Time of Year!

You don’t want to rock up out of the airport dressed in a loose-fitting dress, only to find that it’s windy and -10 degrees outside! Ok, I get this is an extreme example, but I always check the expected temperatures of the locations I travel to so I know what clothing will work.

If you find out that the temp is going to be consistently warm, you’ll know that you can safely pack dresses, skirts, and shorts and not be freezing cold all holiday!

The warm weather in summertime lets us experiment and wear a whole new range of clothes⎯especially when traveling abroad and exploring an amazing new destination.

Using the above tips, it is possible to look incredible and turn heads but still be comfortable and not end up a sticky, sweaty mess in the blistering summer heat. The key is to choose items you like but that are also practical for the weather and will allow you to get the most out of your summer vacation.
