4 Tips to Keep Your Hair Healthy and Lustrous

Everyone deals with unruly hair, while only a select few boast all-around good hair days. But, what do these people do to keep their locks looking so good, and what can you do to mimic these styles?

People are quick to assume that the only way to achieve beautiful hair is to visit an expensive salon. Luckily, that’s not the case. Here are some easy and effective ways to boost your hair and keep it looking stylish.

Don’t Underestimate the Power of Good Products

There are so many different, seemingly good, products on the haircare market. Going into a store and trying to find something that works for your unique hair type can be challenging since you’re always being overstimulated with choices.

Not only should you look out for styling products with properties designed for your hair specifically, but you want to find products with ingredients that are healthy and have additional uses besides styling. If you’re choosing products with harmful ingredients, your hair may look good for as long as the product lasts, but then you’ll be dealing with damage and coarseness that can be hard to repair.

There are plenty of innovative styling products on the market that can be used as haircare too. Playa hair products make your locks look and feel fantastic without damaging it, like their New Day Hair Mist. It’s a hairspray that doubles as a moisturizing agent. Using ingredients like aloe water, it helps smooth your hair so you won’t have to use excess heat.

Protect Your Hair

If you frequently use heat as a method for styling, you’re probably causing more harm than good. If you’re keen on keeping your arsenal of heated styling tools, just make sure you use a heat protectant prior to style it.

Also, if you dry it frequently, always keep some distance between your head and the dryer. This will keep you from developing split ends and ruining the texture of your hair. If you can, air-drying is always the healthiest way to go.

Be Careful with Your Hairbrush

For some reason, so many people don’t know the right way to use a hairbrush. If you use too much force, you’ll end up with hair that is overly fluffy and damaged. Always use a soft grip to avoid split ends.

You should brush twice a day, once during the day and once at night, for a minute each time. Don’t brush straight down from the root because you’ll just tug on your hair too hard. Instead, start at the bottom and brush downwards in small sections.

And, never brush if your hair is wet. When it is wet, it is more susceptible to breakage. Simply wait for it to dry naturally before you take a hairbrush to it.

Limit How Often You Wash Your Hair

A lot of people don’t realize how unhealthy it is to constantly use shampoo. It may not make sense at first, but limiting washes is actually crucial if you want to maintain healthy hair.

The purpose of shampoos is to rid your hair of its natural oils that have built up over the course of a day or several days. But, the oils and proteins are fundamentally important to your scalp. Constantly taking them away from your hair will lead to overcompensation in the form of an oily scalp.

Wash your hair only a few times a week. You don’t have to make that change immediately, but start limiting how often you wash it. Your scalp may feel oily at first, but eventually you will begin producing much less oil.
