Women in politics in the United States has reached an all-time high with the number of women in Congress at the highest percentage to date.
Women comprise 20 percent of the House of Representatives and the Senate. However, the overall population of women in the US population is 50 percent. So, although, women are active in politics more than any other time in history, there is still a gender gap in the United States in regards to political representation. Basically, the US Congress is still dominated by men.
Why is there a misrepresentation of women in US politics? Some believe many talented, highly successful women are disillusioned with today’s government. They are asking, “Why should I get involved with such a dysfunctional organization?”
Also, women who may be interested in running for political office, might not have the proper funding to run a successful election campaign.
And it is critical to have powerful women mentors in order to get more women interested in politics.
Therefore, in order to have more women interested in government, it is vital to have mentorship that will guide young women and inspire them to run for public office, proper funding in order to get their word out and positive, hopeful women that are willing to take the chance.
What do YOU think? Do you think women are still not accurately represented in US politics? And do you think this effects you on a personal level?
