A new study shows that there are different preferences for breast size and shape depending on where you live in the world. For example, the United States favors large nipples. France wants a smaller bust line and India opts for a buxom chest with a full upper breast. The study also revealed that Brazilians desire the largest areola, but the US, India and France also prefer large areolas. Germany, however, preferred the smallest areola size.
This study, published in the Annals of Plastic Surgery, said that this is likely due to cultural differences in perceptions of beauty. After all, Texans may prefer a “big Southern blonde”, while Asian may prefer a woman with a slighter frame with smaller breasts.
Dr. Colleen McCarthy, a reconstructive surgeon at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center said, “We can glean that there is no universally accepted aesthetic norm when talking about breast shape”.
What do you think? Do you believe where you live has shaped your perception of the perfect breast? And do you think this may lead to dissatisfaction among women whose breasts do not fit into this aesthetic ideal?
