Beyoncé will join the cast of one of Disney’s classics!
It’s official! Beyoncé Knowles is going to be a voice in a live-action adaptation of family favorite, “The Lion King”!
Beyoncé has just signed on to be the voice of Nala in the “The Lion King”, the love interested of Simba. This live-action adaptation is being directed by Jon Favreau.
Who else will be in the cast?Well, Donald Glover will portray Simba, James Earl Jones will voice Mufasa, and Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the villain, Scar! Also included in the cast are Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Oliver and John Kani, among others.
It was believed that Beyoncé was going to portray Nala for months, and in August, she was in final negotiations to play the role originally portrayed by Moira Kelly in 1994.
Favreau said regarding the cast, “It is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life”. “The Lion King” was one of the most successful animated films of all time as it grossed $968.8 million. It also won the Academy Award for Original Song of the year, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, and for original score by Hans Zimmer. Zimmer will score this live-action version of “The Lion King”, as well.
In addition to Favreau producing and directing, Karen Gilchrist is also producing. Jeff Nathanson wrote the screenplay based on the 1994 screenplay by Irene Mecchi Johnathan Roberts and Linda Woolverton. Executive producing are Tom Peitzman and Thomas Schumacher, and John Bartnicki is co-producing.
The newest version of “The Lion King” is expected to hit the theaters on July 19, 2019! We can hardly wait!
