Beyoncé has inspired others to go vegan!
All hail Queen Bey Bey! Today, being a celebrity means you have the power to reach more people than ever before. And perhaps this was best demonstrated when new research showed that when Beyoncé went vegan, it apparently influenced millions of others to do the same.
That’s right, Beyoncé might have turned on a new generation of fans to a plant-based diet! It’s important to note that she was only completely vegan for about 22 days in 2013. But by announcing that she and her husband, Jay Z, had gone vegan, she caused a spike in those who also chose to adapt a plant-based diet. She impacted this movement even though she was a complete vegan for only a short amount of time.
This valuable information was discovered by a Finnish doctoral student, Outi Lundahl, at the University of Vaasa. She explained, “Interest in veganism seemed to explode because of this stint and I became intrigued.” She also believes that Jared Leto, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mike Tyson have also contributed to this trend.
Veganism increased by 32 percent in 2015 and a staggering 90 percent in 2016! And although Beyonce and Jay Z went vegan primarily for health reasons and weight-loss, many others are adopting this lifestyle for the environment. Others are going vegan because they want to be compassionate towards animals.
A plant-based diet is known to lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes and maybe even cancer. Regarding the environment, the commercial meat industry is responsible for air pollution, deforestation, and greenhouse gas emissions.
For others, they choose to adapt a plant-based diet because they simply don’t want to kill animals for food. In the commercial meat industry, animals are kept in inhumane conditions and are subject to abuse and cruelty.
So, even though Beyoncé and Jay Z were only vegans for a short amount of time, their positive influence as role models clearly made an impact on others adapting a plant-based lifestyle.
