Contestants from every state competed last night for the title. So, who was the lucky winner?
Each year, the Miss America pageant brings out the brightest and best young women the U.S. has to offer to compete for the crown in Atlantic City. This year, 51 contestants came together in the seaside town along with host Steve Harvey to compete in the 91st year of the pageant!
Who was crowned Miss America 2018? None other than…Miss North Dakota, 23 year-old Cara Mund!
Cara said in her interview that President Donald Trump should not have pulled the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord. This accord was designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that can add to global warming.
She said, “It’s a bad decision. There is evidence that climate change is existing and we need to be at that table.”
What are the future goals for our new Miss America? She wants to be the first woman elected governor in her state of North Dakota and believes that we need to see more women in all levels of the government! She said, “It’s important to have a women’s perspective in health care and reproductive rights. It’s predominantly men making those decisions.”
In addition, the first runner up was Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis. The second runner up was Miss New Jersey Kaitlyn Schoeffel. The third runner up was Miss District of Columbia Briana Kinsey and the fourth runner up was Miss Texas Margana Wood!
Margana’s hometown is Houston and she sent positive vibes to her home state of Texas earlier in the week. Also, Miss Florida, Sara Zeng, lent her support to her home state and said that her family is safe from Hurricane Irma. She said, “I’m thinking about everyone in Florida every single day, but I know that regardless what happens, we’ll all get through this together.”
Congratulations to our new Miss America 2018 Cara Mund!
