The Chinese New Year: What It Means to Be in the Year of the Goat

Here we are in 2015; the year of the goat. But what does it really mean to be a goat? What exactly does a goat year promise? As strange and off-putting as it may sound, the goat’s personality is actually as enticing, captivating and intriguing as any. Likewise, this year may certainly be one to remember.

In terms of the zodiac sign, the goat is quite the complicated creature. Indecisive and complex, we goats do not take to decision making- especially significant decision making- very kindly. We are insecure, not only about ourselves but also regarding the choices we make, making us both hesitant and worrisome in many cases. Goats are the type of people to spend an hour getting ready before running to the local store or gas station out of fear of judgment and a constant need for stability. Often we can be lazy, letting things happen around us, sitting back and watching as passive observers. This may, in part, be due to our need for love, validation and protection. Big decisions place us in charge of heavy impacts on others, and quite simply the goats will avoid these situations at all costs in order to bypass any potential criticism, disapproval, or consequences. We are a cautious bunch.

Do not be fooled, however. There is so much more to the goat than meets the eye. We are the creative thinkers, the dreamers, and the wonderers. We envision and muse ourselves on more than what lies in front of us. Often we view these possibilities and dreams pessimistically, though we do possess the character traits that aid us in our successes. Good mannered, romantic, caring and sensitive, we very easily captivate the minds of others who become perplexed by our shy, reserved nature. Goats tend to acquire professional skills with ease and work hard and diligently until they achieve whatever they actually do decide to commit to. Although we prefer to congregate in groups of friends, our goal is not to have the spotlight, but rather to stay in tuned to our own personal thoughts; this is where our minds dwell.

Now, in 2015, we have yet again come upon the year of the goat. Despite the violent turmoil in the Middle East and the efforts to spread hatred and fighting, the year of the goat is calm. Just as the goat is calm and gentle, so will be the year. This year will be one for contemplating the year before and appreciating the good that has occurred. Aim to steadily choose and stay upon a path to preserve the tranquility. Now is not a time for excessive spending and rash decision making, but rather for reflection and smooth sailing. This year, the year of the goat, is indicative of renewal, creativity and peace. While nothing is ever guaranteed, I think we could all use a little bit of that in our lives.
