Tesla is making a statement in the car industry: faux leather seats are now available for the Tesla Model X! Why is that so surprising? For decades, leather-free options have been limited due to the compatibility with other “upgrades” such as better speakers or heated seats. But with the urging of PETA, one of Tesla Motors’s shareholders, Tesla has found a way to make a vegan car.
The “Ultra White” option now comes with a fully vegan leather interior-including synthetic leather seats, steering wheel, and gear shift- so you don’t have to sacrifice luxury for your values.
“By offering a 100% leather-free car, Tesla is pushing the eco-friendly business even further into the future,” PETA Executive Vice-President Tracy Reiman said in a statement to NBC News. “PETA can now point to Tesla as a source for top-quality vehicles whose cruelty-free seats are as kind to the environment as its engines are.”
This model will become available by the end of 2016. Reservations start now with a $5,000 deposit for a base price of $80,000.
