Taylor Swift released a futuristic music video for her song “… Ready for it?”, the second single for her upcoming album, Reputation, directed by Joseph Khan.
The singer/director duo worked previously on “Blank Space”, “Bad”, “Blank Space,” “Bad Blood,” “Wildest Dreams,” “Out of the Woods” and “Look What You Made Me Do,” and now they teamed up to present a sci-fi inspired music video.
Swift teased the first footage via Instagram and Kahn later tweeted saying that it was going to feature some “homages” to anime: “Some obvious, some not so obvious.”
After Swift posted three stills on Instagram, the director shared one of them and added, “Such a pleasure to collaborate with both a powerful creative artist and fantastic human being.”
Kahn is one of the major music video directors. The filmmaker has been behind iconic collaborations with Christina Aguilera, Blink-182, Mariah Carey, Eminem, Maroon 5, Shakira and Britney Spears.
Swift’s new video is inspired in films such as Blade Runner 2049 and Ghost in the Shell, and features a sequence in which Swift stands on a stage that reads: “They’re Burning All the Witches.”
The fun part for all the fans is deciphering all the cryptic messages and this one is a feast for all the Swifties. The fanatics already shared on social media their impressions, noticing the numbers 89 and 91, Taylor’s and her new beau, Joe Alwyn’s birth years, respectively.
“OMG. The characters 蛇年 is Chinese for ‘Year of the Snake,’” one fan shared on Twitter. “Which is the zodiac year @taylorswift13 was born in.” The pop star has taken advantage of this iconography, which was used against her during her infamous feud with Kanye and Kim Kardashian, and now she is selling merchandise with the image as part of her Reputation release.
Currently the Grammy winner is holding secret sessions for deserving fans across the country, and now a major member of her squad shared her glowing impression on her upcoming LP.
“I obviously love her so much and want her to do what she does and she’s killing it,” Selena Gomez said in an interview on Apple Music. “It’s everything you would want and more so very proud and obviously a major fan.”
Reputation will be released on November 10.
