Last week, I had the opportunity to speak to Jober Velasco, Stylist to the Stars, about fall fashion for women and men. Jober had some simple, easy tips to share with
everyone and I’m so excited about this year’s upcoming trends!

1. Jober, what do you predict for this year’s upcoming fall fashions for women?

Well everyone knows that the big trend for this fall is leather. So look for jackets, skirts, pants, everything you can think of. I’m looking forward to colors. Leather doesn’t come in just black and brown. Look for burgundy, green, tan, and all of the colors of fall reflected in all the latest offerings for this fall.

2. What do you see being in style for men this fall?

Fall marks the beginning of my favorite part of the year. During this time I like to see men take the suits out of their closets that have sat there during the hot summer months. Definitely suits will always be in so the fall is a good time to do your best pieces in your collection and pick up some of the new offerings. I also love knit wear so definitely you’ll see that being a big part of men’s wardrobes. Cardigans, sweaters, scarves, you’ll see it all.

3. If you could pick one wardrobe “must have” for this fall, what would it be and why?

I guess I’m just biased because I have so many and wear them so often, but every man should have a two piece suit. They’re very versatile. You can go full on formal with a French cuff shirt and tie to go with your suit. Dress it down a bit with by going without a tie. Omit the jacket and just wear a shirt and the trousers for a casual night out. Or just use the jacket as a blazer and pair it with a nice pair of jeans. One two-piece suit can provide the base of multiple outfits for multiple seasons. I always like to have my jacket with me, because you never know when a beautiful woman might need a jacket to keep her warm.

For the women, I think it would be a pair of comfortable and usable shoes. And when I say usable I think something that will give you traction to make it through any weather condition. I hate seeing women trying to walk or do anything in wet weather with the wrong footwear. Wear something that will get you to your destination then put on your cute shoes when you get there. Your feet and maybe your face will thank you. (Face hitting the pavement is never a good thing.)

4. We’ve all heard the phrase, “The clothes make the man.” How do you believe clothing effects our personality, self-esteem and the way we present ourselves to the world?

I love this question. Everyone has said this for as long as I can remember. Obviously, well-made bespoke clothing will not only make you look good, but it WILL make you feel good. And now it’s been scientifically proven that wearing certain types of clothing will increase certain personality and intelligence traits. There is a condition called Enclosed Cognition. Basically we associate certain traits with certain clothes and when wearing those clothes our personalities will change as we incorporate those traits into our behavior. If you wear a suit most associated with a Wall Street power broker you’ll feel more powerful and confident yourself. There’s a great explanation of this effect in this
video.

5. If people want to get a fall wardrobe consultation with you how would they contact you?
