“What is happening to our world?” exclaims Kourtney Kardashian
If you are like the millions of Americans right now waking up to the horrible news of what happened in Las Vegas late last night, many are asking the question, “What is happening to our world?”
And indeed this is exactly what Kourtney Kardashian asked as she found out about the Las Vegas shooting that took at least 58 lives last night and injured 515 in the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.
The shooting began at approximately 10:08 pm last night at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. This three-day country music festival was attended by 22,000 loyal fans who came to see Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sam Hunt, and Kane Brown, among others. The gunman, identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire onto the crowd from a 32nd floor hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
Celebrities used social media to express their shock, grief, and disbelief over this tragic incident. Rihanna said, “Saying a prayer for all the victims & their loved ones, also for the residents & visitors of Las Vegas! This was a horrific act of terror!”
Khloe Kardashian was up at 4am last night and was one of the first celebrities to write about the mass shooting. She said, “This is heartbreaking to learn about! Things have got to change!”
At 5:30am Carrie Underwood said, “Woke up to such horrible news. We are praying for the victims and their families. May the Lord bring some comfort to them.”
Half an hour later, Gigi Hadid wrote, “I feel like every day is more shocking and sad…My heart is broken for all the victims of last night’s shooting in Vegas, & their families.”
During this time, Harry Styles also wrote, “Woke up to the heartbreaking news from Las Vegas, my thoughts are with everyone and their families. Love. H.”
And perhaps one of the most poignant posts from Kourtney Kardashian who asked the question, “What is happening to our world?” And her sister, Kim, said “Woke up to the most devastating news about Las Vegas. I’m praying for everyone in Las Vegas!”
Kate Hudson reacted by saying, “’My thoughts and prayers #StopThisHate #StopTheViolence.” And indeed, this is making many others question U.S. gun control. Actress Julianne Moore said, “I mourn this senseless loss of life. What will it take, #Congress, for you to act? @Everytown @MomsDemand #endgunviolence”
Many other celebrities are confused, shocked, and dismayed as The Voice judge and country western superstar, Blake Shelton, said, “My deepest sympathies and prayers to anyone has been affected by the Vegas shooting last night. I don’t even know anymore… Why?”
Jason Aldean, who was performing during the shooting, shared that he and his crew were safe after the incident, “Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate.”
