‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ Turns 20: 5 Style Lessons We Could All Learn from Sabrina
It’s been 20 years since Sabrina the Teenage Witch premiered and we still can’t stop talking about her style.
On September 27, 1996, Sabrina the Teenage Witch premiered to an excited young audience. Americans knew Melissa Joan Hart from her show Clarissa Explains it All on Nickelodeon, but we all wondered if she would transition from the offbeat indie-music-loving pre-teen to a strong, independent girl that caught the eye of the cutest boy in school. After one episode as Sabrina, it was obvious that this show was a hit and it’s now beloved by millions around the world.
It was evident within the first few shows that the style of the show was going to be one to follow. And as time went on, and as Sabrina got older, her clothes only got better and better. No matter your style or personal preference, here are a few things everyone can learn from the amazing style of Sabrina Spellman.
Your clothes should always fit
Costume designer, Rachel Stanley, really knew how to dress Melissa Joan Hart. So much so that Melissa didn’t do much of her own shopping until she left the show. (In her book, Melissa Explains it All, Melissa said that she would borrow clothes from set and even have her designer dress her for events.) All of Sabrina’s clothes fit perfectly. Nothing was sagging, nothing was baggy, and – more importantly – nothing was ever skin-tight. No bandage dresses existed then. Sabrina was a class act. Things were still left to the imagination.
