Reset Your Body with an End-of-Summer Detox

As summertime comes to an end, you can detox to your fullest potential. Smoothies, acai bowls, salads, and healthy alternatives help you to maintain longevity and to feel better both inside and out. For vegetarians and vegans, you can never forget to get your protein found in tofu, beans, peas, hummus, quinoa, nuts, seed, falafel, tempeh, seitan, and other healthy toppings. I love finding new ways to make an old food new again.

Juicing can also help your body to restart again and recharge, releasing any old toxins. Since we’re all humans and have enjoyed that a chocolate bar or a bag of chips here and there, let’s get juicing!

  • 1 inch of ginger root

Veggie Mix Detox

  • 2 celery stalks
  • ½ beet

  • ½ lemon

Total Body Detox Juice

  • 1 asparagus
  • 1 cucumber
  • ½ lemon

Salads

Fresh Mex salads are my favorite alternative to burritos and, double bonus, it also cuts back on your carb intake. I love to throw black beans on top with an assortment of toppings vegan friendly shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, brown rice, guacamole, and Just Mayo Sriracha on top for extra flavor. You can make any salad nutritious and delicious using your favorite toppings and trying to create a healthy rendition. Listen to your body and what it needs at the current moment. You may be lacking a vitamin that each food could inevitably provide for you. Try and think, how can I alter my falafel pita and add some greens into my salad instead? You’ll have to get rid of the pita, sadly.

Noodle Alternatives

Zucchini and spaghetti squash are so trendy as a substitute for starchy noodles. As a summer dish, you can sauté any greens up and add them to your dish. I made broccoli rabe with diced tomatoes sautéed in extra virgin olive oil. I added sauce on top to get the Italian pasta feel. I didn’t have to feel guilty if I went for a second or third dish.

If you are craving noodles, use edamame, chickpea, spinach, or other alternatives over your generic white or wheat noodles; you’ll get more nutrients and feel fuller. There are a lot of protein noodles available and the black bean one seems to be fairly popular pasta. More beans, go lean.

There you have it! Try and get creative with your foods. Who wants a boring menu anyway? Switch it up, try something new and different in the kitchen. Use different ingredients and keep it interesting. Besides trying new foods can be like traveling to a new place; go wherever you want to go!
