The Red Carpet is Officially Open! And Political Fashion is Trending!

Stars will be wearing politically charged fashion in wake of Trump’s jabs at liberal Hollywood. The red carpet at the 89th Academy Awards is now officially open and what is the trend this year? Political fashion for sure! ICYDK, even before the stars have a chance to speak their political views at the podium, they are using the red carpet to tell the over 1 billion people expected to watch their views!

We’ve just seen Oscar nominee Ruth Negga (Loving) on the red carpet wearing a gorgeous, high neck, scarlet red gown by Karla Welch. In addition, she wore a highly prominent blue ACLU ribbon to support this organization’s efforts to protect individuals’ rights.  This comes in the wake of President Trump’s recent Muslim ban restricting citizens of 7 Muslim countries from entering the US for a period of 90 days. Lin Manuel Miranda, who is performing at the ceremony, was also seen on the red carpet sporting a blue ACLU ribbon. His date (who was incidentally his mother) Dr. Luz towns-Miranda, was also seen wearing a blue ribbon.

Many are calling the unexpected political fashion tonight “dress to protest”. And indeed Big Bang Theory Simon Helberg and his wife, Jocelyn Towne at the SAG Awards used the red carpet to protest the recent travel ban by holding up a sign that said “Refugees Welcome”. Towne wrote on her chest “Let Them In” in black ink. In addition, Joy Villa wore a red, white and blue dress that said, “Make America Great Again” at the Grammys.
