What Really Happens When You Don’t Remove Your Makeup Before Bed

It’s midnight and you’re home from a big night out. You might think your makeup has gradually come off during the night, but the reality is your long-lasting beauty products can stay on for days without proper removal. Or maybe it’s a typical work day and your makeup is lighter. Still, your beauty products can linger.

It’s essential to remove your makeup before you head to bed so your skin can breathe overnight. These are the consequences if you choose to leave your makeup on while you sleep.

Clogged Pores

Your pores are clogged and cannot breathe through most makeup products. Therefore, your pores accumulate impurities that favor the appearance of unpleasant zits, pimples, and blackheads. Your chances of clear skin drop astronomically.

Your Lashes Become Brittle

In order to achieve long and thick lashes, masks or mascara are usually used; but if you don’t remove it before going to sleep, the lashes become dry and this affects the hair right from the root, and turns them very fragile and brittle.

Skin Irritation

If you fall asleep with your face made up, it will be harder to remove it the next day as it’s had more time to seep into your skin. The worst part is that you’ll need stronger products to remove it and this will, undoubtedly, cause skin deterioration and irritation.

Malnourished Skin

Leaving your makeup on during the night is much more damaging than it seems. Vitamins and nutrients can help regenerate your skin during the nocturnal phase. With a layer of makeup, it cannot carry out the phase properly and can leave you with dry and flaky skin.

If you don’t remove your makeup before sleeping (mascara and eyeliner) causes obstruction of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands in the eyelids and sties may appear — a painful inflammation of the glands located under the eyelashes.

Also, sleeping with any type of lipstick can cause dryness and cracking, since most lip paints contain strong pigments; this is why it’s recommended to remove them with a special product and to apply balm when not using lip color.

To make sure you keep your skin healthy and nourished, as well as looking naturally young, it is very important that you remove your makeup every night. While you’re allowing your body and mind to rejuvenate, remember that your skin needs tender love and care, too!
